Compazzo does his flopping act against Ayton and proceeds to miss both technical FTs.

Ayton with a big putback and Hield with a big three. Back to 9.

Bahamas wins 101-89. Ayton finishes with 22 points on 68.8% FG, 15 rebounds, 3 blocks (it was really 4 or 5), 2 steals, 1 turnover, 3 fouls, and a +15 in 34 minutes.

Caught the ball at about 25-feet, took one pointless dribble and looked to pass. Where was the ball handling stuff we saw last game? In the timeout huddle immediately after you can clearly hear Hield, "DA... attack him!"
The coach told them to stop shooting threes and to let Ayton do the scoring. That's when Hield told him "attack him" and the coach said, "He knows. He knows." Monty would never. :P

What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

He remained engaged and battled the opponent that was significantly better than the Cubans. A very nice showing.

This was a game that gives me more confidence in him and it shows how easy it should be for him to impact the game. I've criticized him for not being a ballhandler or playmaker, but that's related to his salary. He doesn't need to do that stuff for the Suns. Just be aggressive and focus on playing the role the team needs to win and don't check out after not getting a shot for a few minutes.

This is what happens when he has a coach who believes in him. Fortunately, he has one on the Suns now, too.

More data supporting the Monty held Ayton back hypotheses IMHO

I'm enjoying the optimism and I've been impressed, especially tonight. Let's table some of that and hopefully see it in the NBA. He looks lean, determined, fit. Things that can help a ton. And at his age, I can understand his relationship with the head coach affecting his effort.

Some of this stuff is so corny.

The Ayton that played today is the same guy he's been for the past three seasons, and it's not addressing his inconsistent play that's been the biggest critique of his play for his entire career.

We've all known he's a borderline all-star when he plays with high effort and aggression. Monty tried to pull that out of him more consistently and now he's the scapegoat for every deficiency in Ayton's entire career because he's played well in two games against no one who's sniffing an NBA rotation.

Or some people just like smelling their own farts a bit too much.

It’s only two games. Let’s wait until he gets some NBA games under his belt with his new coach before we celebrate.

I don’t think Monty told him to refrain from dunking the ball.
