I have been watching The Americans lately. Just getting through Season 1. I like it a lot. It's the next great drama show, IMO. Highly recommended. I wasn't sure I'd like it after 1-2 episodes, but it has been getting better throughout the season. The lead three actors, Phillip and Elizabeth (the main couple of Russian spies) as well as the main FBI agent who's after them, are all excellent.

I am current on that show, Mori. I don't want to taint anything, but I would say Season 1 is by far the best, and it went down hill from there. I am hoping the season that is getting ready to start up is better than the last.

My wife is addicted to those home improvement shows. Now she wants to remodel everything in the house.

Grantland, Sepinwall, etc. are saying they think this new upcoming season of Americans is excellent.

I watch them occasionally, and it does make you want to remodel.

I've watched it from episode one in real time. I really dig it.

I like these shows on taking foreclosured homes or auctioned houses and watch the transformation from an outdated home to a beautiful home.
Huh. I'll have to check out Flipping San Diego since I plan on buying in San Diego later this year.
That will give you a totally realistic and not at all over-produced concept of the market. :)
Well, at least it will expose me to some different areas in the market. I'm not even sure where to start. There's 360 degrees of possibilities from where I work.

I'm really going to take my time. I don't want to be house poor. It is very expensive. If I have to fix something up to get a good deal, I will.

I lost interest midway through season 2 and have not caught up. I have heard that the new season is off to a good start, so I want to catch up, because the show has so much promise. But, at this point I also feel like I'd need to watch from the start, and I don't know if I'm in for that. It's not a binge watching show.

You know I was being snarky. But, also I am not kidding in my snark. These shows are rigged so that you see the diamond in the rough. I know you would do this anyway, but get yourself a realtor who has an affinity for flippable places. Then, you can find a deal and make the improvements, and instead of selling, just live in a beautiful place.

But also, do not underestimate the amount of work that goes into improving a place. That show gives a lovely and glamorized version of it...again, I know you know this, but it's not something to base a decision on. Or even use as a factor in the decision.

I appreciate the advice. I've never seen the show so I don't even know what to expect. Well, I do more now.

They are actually fun shows to have on while you kill a couple hours and need the TV as distraction. And you may very well get some good ideas out of it...people are creative. But the cost and the labor and the personal stress on the owner is the part that will hurt later.

I guess my advice is this. If you want to buy the house of your dreams, build it from scratch. If you want to buy a house you COULD love now, but needs a little work, and you can get a good deal, go for it. If you want to buy a house you need to redo completely, but is a steal...well, that depends on your ability to pay, both financially and in personal stress. Both will be higher than you imagine.

All of that said...if you find your castle, make it your castle.

That's where it fell off for me too. But my wife was still interested so we watched it together. Hopefully that pays off this season.

Me too. I have actually been re-watching The X-Files and listening to Kumail Nanjiani's weekly podcast on it. I forgot how fun the show was. Before this, I had seen it during the original run, but that was it. And I quit around the 7th season.

I had never watched Twin Peaks up until a few months ago. Just something I missed and never revisited. Then around October last year I decided to give it a chance. I am just over half way through season 2. The show really has me torn. There are some great things and some really awful things, and a lot in the middle.

I actually don't think I ever watched the final season. I lost interest after it was Doggett and Reyes. Looks like they're all on Netflix, I'll have to get caught up if they do decide to come out with another season.
