Re: All Things Ayton
One of the main things I see is how confident Book and KD are to get Nurk the ball and run offense through him. Even with his sub-par finishing around the rim, they trust him to make the right decision. It’s a stark contrast.
Re: All Things Ayton
Nurk is proving a much better fit so far. But I think we need to see him get through most of the season healthy before we can declare victory completely.

Re: All Things Ayton
I don't think so. Even if we loses him/allen for some period of time, they both givea us more than Max C.
Re: All Things Ayton
Is Ayton's house the Max C Pad?
Re: All Things Ayton
Nope. We are comparing full-season averages.specialsauce wrote: ↑Sun Dec 03, 2023 12:55 pmIs it time?JeremyG wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 1:15 pmHow about this? Re: All Things Ayton
I thought the excuse was they didn’t want to pass him the ball because he might miss a layup? But Nurk’s missed layups are the “right decision”? His FG% (.468) is atrocious for a 7-footer.

Re: All Things Ayton
I'm sure they don't like how well Nurk has fit in with our system. Probably also weird for them seeing their center rotation doing so well here.

I don't think so. He has the physical gifts to do so. Just not the drive and determination. That's why it was always tantalizing but now most of us see that that will never change.specialsauce wrote: ↑Sun Dec 03, 2023 12:35 pmIs it time to declare this debate over. Mr Max will never get another max deal. That talk about averaging 25/10 was silly.

Another fun "what if" is if we had drafted JJJ #1. We had no answers for him last night. He and Book could have been lethal.

Re: All Things Ayton
Yeah, at the end of the day Ayton is one of the worst of the top prospects from his draft. Luka, JJJ, even Trae Young all better. Only Bagley is clearly worse.
Re: All Things Ayton
I don’t only mean passing to him on the roll or under the basket. I mean getting him the ball in general where he can do many more things with it than Ayton. Even if Ayton is a better finisher at the rim, it’s not binary with Nurk.

Re: All Things Ayton
I think JJJ is better than Ayton, but this season seems to be illustrating that it's not by as much as I previously thought. We'd probably be complaining about JJJ's inability to avoid foul trouble in the same way we did about Ayton's inability to play hard more than once a week on average.

Re: All Things Ayton
They loved to get him the ball if he was near the rim…it was in the short roll that Ayton caused the offense to come to a screeching halt with the ball.
Nurk is quite a bit worse as a finisher than Ayton, you’re not going to find people arguing otherwise. That’s not what this debate is about. However, he’s been quite a bit better after a pretty poor start…Since Book came back he’s 55/106 which is 52% and if you take out 3s, he’s 49/85 which is 58%…or 1% lower than Ayton.
Re: All Things Ayton
JJJ just can’t really handle being a 5 full-time. He’s an elite defender when he can just lurk near the rim and help on drives. He’s a skilled, but inconsistent, offensive player.Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Sun Dec 03, 2023 5:36 pmI think JJJ is better than Ayton, but this season seems to be illustrating that it's not by as much as I previously thought. Re: All Things Ayton
JJJ's not really a Center at all if his level drops so significantly when not paired with a more physical front court teammate.

Re: All Things Ayton
He's a stretchish 4 that rebounds like a SF, I think the idea of JJJ actually surpasses the production, much like the other guy.
Love, Hurts.
Re: All Things Ayton
Shockingly, his rebounding has gotten even worse with Steven Adams out.

True that we would have had other things to complain about. He’s not getting the max though, is he?
