I'm excited for Agent Cooper! Woot. That's some damn good pie.
I had never watched Twin Peaks up until a few months ago. Just something I missed and never revisited. Then around October last year I decided to give it a chance. I am just over half way through season 2. The show really has me torn. There are some great things and some really awful things, and a lot in the middle.
Yes. Season 2 is either real good or terrible. Season 1 is just fantastic TV that shaped the future of television.

I have never seen an episode without it being Scully and Mulder.

I watched X-Files about a year or two ago from the start until Mulder and Scully left. I really liked it. Great show. Was fun to binge-watch, too, so I could follow all of the overall master plot. It was also fun to watch that one episode with Bryan Cranston in it that single-handedly led to his casting in Breaking Bad.

I hadn't heard anything about a revival of the series, but sure enough, it looks like there's some news about it. Neat! I don't think I would watch it without the original duo of Mulder and Scully, unless they found some really good pair of new characters to take their place. But without David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson it would not be the same.

Sounds like it would only be back as a limited miniseries, though. That's less appealing to me. I guess if they could make, say, 8 great episodes that culminated in a neat conclusion, a la True Detective, that could be something special.

I think that is the plan. They have been talking about making a 3rd movie and I think it would lead up to that.

Anyone watch Hannibal? One of the most strangely beautiful (and bloodiest) shows on network TV. Gillian Anderson is playing a major role this coming season.

I'm not at all interested in an X-files miniseries. If they were to reboot the whole series, and maybe commit to a 3-5 season storyline (one where they actually know where they are going), that would be one thing. But at this point, it's been so long since the show was on (much less good) that I don't even remember all of the unanswered questions they need to resolve. Also, the way it did end, there would be several key players who are no longer in the picture, and that would mean building up a whole new dynamic with the characters. If they want to stick with the Mulder and Scully duo, they would be better served in movies at this point (good ones like Fight the Future, not bad ones like that boring soap opera one).

If they do it on TV, I would honestly rather see a completely new cast. Not because I think anyone can pull off Mulder and Scully like Duchovny and Anderson, but because I think their story is already over. But I would LOVE to see another great conspiracy series in the X-files realm come back.

I will probably be in the extreme minority on this...maybe I should audition for one of the Lone Gunmen. :)

Hannibal is one of my favorite shows that I almost never want to watch, and I think you explained exactly why. I don't have a problem with violence, blood, gore, or any of that. In fact, I enjoy it as much as any guy normally. And Hannibal is exceptionally well-written and the cast is superb. But the way the show is paced...very slow, very deliberate, and yes, violent, combined with the sheer beauty and artistry of the murders is REALLY FUCKING CREEPY. It's a shame that it's a network show...if they were on cable of HBO, I can only imagine how much more disturbing it could be. Then again, I already have a hard time watching, so maybe I should shut my yap hole.

When I saw the first episode, I started to binge watch, like I tend to do with any great show. But I quickly realized that would royally mess up my brain, so I had to chill.

I'm thinking of a 10-12 episode season that would be one long story of a "monster of the week" variety with some of the conspiracy thrown in. Honestly, researching the entire series has been great for me. I'm only in season 3, but I didn't realize how great some of the stand alone episodes are.

Oh, but I'm with you on the reboot with new characters. I think that would be cool too.

What?! I sure don't remember that happening. How can you have X-Files without Mulder and Scully?
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

I just think all the mystery is gone. The great thing about Mulder and scully was the dichotomy in what they were willing to believe. But now, they've already seen it all, and that's gone. Plus, they are already married. No tension.

Imagine a two-hour version of a boring episode that had absolutely nothing to do with the overall story arc. That's all you missed.

I was recently rewatching Alias, and I had forgotten how great that show started. I still haven't made it through the full series, because the last season just loses so much steam...but that was a really awesome show. If the X-files reboot can find that level of balance between monster of the week and story arc, I would change my tune. But, part of the beauty of X-files was that there would be episodes with only the subtlest hint of a clue towards the overall story, or even side stories (for example, Scully learning she has cancer). Generally, I prefer the stronger central plot, but when they have time to explore like in X-files, it can really work...but not in a miniseries, I think.
