Brian Windhorst just said it on his podcast. He said it pretty definitively. He didn’t really expound…just said they will be re-signing Royce

I like O'Neale for this team a lot, so I'm glad we are signing him. I do not want to hit the Playoffs next year with 4 of our top 6 players being SGs, but we need to pick up the best players we can so that we have some trade assets.

We can't sign and trade, right? I'm expecting some movement during the season this year. I like that Royce is a bit more versatile and can play off-the-ball PG more than Allen, so he's the one I would rather keep. But honestly, I'm hoping we can trade them both for good players at other positions.

Edit: I seem to be contradicting myself here, and I assure you that I am in fact conflicted.

I think I know what you're saying. In reality, they have to hang on to what assets they have, even if it's just to have some assets to trade later. Having half your roster full of minimum (or near minimum) salary players doesn't give you much flexibility, especially when you can't do sign-and-trades or combine outgoing salaries.

Ya we can’t sign and trade. I also think we need size on the wing and in the paint. Any guards better be point guards and POA defenders. Royce can at least defend up a little. He’s still on the small side for a wing though.

Here’s a wing I’ve thought about for the min…someone else brought up that Jordan Nwora played with Bud in Milwaukee and is a free agent. Possible he could be had for the vet min and is 6’8 225 and can defend and shoot a little.

My dream free agency(that is somewhat realistic)would be Jordon Nwora, Mo Bamba, and Kris Dunn.

I think I’d lean towards trading 22 for a later pick plus another future pick that could be attached to a player in a future trade. I’d still like to bring in a rookie this year though. I wonder if Portland would do 22 for 34/40 and a future 2nd…or maybe just 34 and 2 future 2nds.

We have his bird rights and there probably won't be much of a market for him. It's probably just a foregone conclusion he'll re-sign that no one's really keeping a secret.

Ya and we might also want to overpay him a touch to make it a more tradable contract. Give him essentially the MLE.

Yeah, match his salary to the guys we are targeting for trades.

Can't we sign him and then trade him in mid-December if we really wanted to?

We can do that, yes. But we can’t sign and (immediately) trade him this summer. That was another 2nd apron restriction that was added(can’t acquire a player via sign and trade and can’t use a TPE that was created by a sign and trade to acquire a player).

100%

This is another reason why it makes no sense to me that the Suns want to move away from getting young athletic players through the draft and instead prefer to trade picks for vets.

Why use "22" for the unveiling?

My guess is it’s a photoshopped pic of the black ones and it’s what the guy had. It is funny to use 22

Windy on PTI...Wilbon said he hasn't heard great things about KD and the Suns. Windy says Suns are in the middle of completely revamping the org -bringing in Budenholzer and changing the coaching staff, front office, support staff. Says they need to revamp the roster and that people around the league are looking at KD and the Suns with a side eye but he expects the Suns to give it another go and for KD to at least start the season in Phoenix.
