I wonder what happened with JJ? Was he the choice and Hurley changed his mind and decided to do it? Kinda funny Shams was so wrong

Is this a done deal?

It doesn’t say it’s a done deal…just that they are preparing a massive offer. Woj doesn’t usually report it though unless it’s happening.

No disrespect to Bud, but GDWTF I was pining for Dan Hurley like two months ago.

Now I’m stuck hoping to be wrong about him.
Would he have been a good fit for our win now team?

More Woj...makes sense the Lakers want a longer term sustainable plan. Not sure if a college coach/program type of thing will actually work in the NBA unless the stars buy in. Funny he says the NBA is changing and the days of trading 3-4 picks for a star and having a roster that can win are over. Teams need to draft and develop young talent and he specifically mentions Bronny. I wonder if LBJ and/or JJ tried to push JJ's hire thru Shams while the Lakers had their own plans Hurley which they kept quiet until things got closer.

I don't believe that Ishbia would give Hurley the control he's going to seek. He wants to build through young players and culture, Ishbia doesn't care about half of that.

Seems like the Lakers are being smart…it’s not worth making every move to make LeBron happy at this point. They need to think about the post-LeBron future which could already be here.

I’d guess LeBron stays…there’s very few places I could see him going to, but Lakers can’t be letting him control things anymore.

I don't want Hurley to be the coach of the Lakers. He was a guy that I wanted the Suns to hire. I'm happy with Bud, but Hurley was my first choice.

Hurley, you guys don't mean that. And don't call me Hurley.

"We'll draft Bronny if you let us hire Hurley" would be a hilarious narrative for the Lakers.

To me, it makes it more likely LeBron and Bronny are coming to Phoenix. LeBron isn't going to be a part of some college program building from the bottom up.

I do think it slightly bumps the chances LeBron leaves…it does signal that LA is likely not just going with what LeBron wants..but maybe LeBron is shifting more towards developing Bronny and likes the idea of Hurley as his coach?

I think ishbia is just going in this direction for now. There may come a day where he goes into that direction but why do that when you have Book’s prime window wide open?

During his freshman season, Bronny had to go to the hospital.

Hospital? Oh dear, what is it?

It's a big building with doctors and patients. But that's not important right now.

I was on the Hurley bandwagon too. You never know with college coaches going to the pros, but his UConn teams were impressively cohesive on both ends of the floor the last couple of years. I think he’ll probably be very good, like Brad Stevens-level or better.

Brad Stevens level would be pretty incredible, that guy seems like an anomaly.

I think he’s a win always type of coach.

There’s basically two successful straight from college to nba head coaches…Brad Stevens and Billy Donovan…Larry Brown did both, but he started in the ABA…though he was an assistant coach at UNC before playing in the ABA
