And you can’t have any prearranged deals in writing, but you can promise Tyus whatever you want.

I'm no lawyer or capologist, but I don't think you are allowed to make promises about future contracts or payments. "If you sign here for the minimum, we'll give you a big raise next year." I think that's disallowed by the CBA and carries big penalties if caught. I don't know exactly what the limit is on what you're allowed to say. I think it would arguably also be unethical to make statements that are obvious hints about future contracts, like, "If you sign here for the minimum, we'll do everything we can to TAKE CARE OF you later, wink wink." You can probably make vague statements like, "We really like you here and want you to remain a Sun for a long time," but you probably can't even imply that you're going to give him a huge raise if he just tanks his contract for 1-2 years.

My point is how would any of that get proved? Sure it might technically be against the rules, but it obviously happens and how would it get proved unless someone tattles on themselves…

I remember when Denver inexplicably gave Reggie Jackson the TPMLE(their only way to add in FA) and everyone assumed it was because they promised him that after he signed as a buyout guy. Why else would they do it after he fell completely out of the rotation in the playoffs?

I still am not sure it’s against the rules. Why can’t you tell a player exactly what your intentions are. Tyus, if you sign here for another vet min(or 20% raise), we will obviously pay you when we can. There’s no formal agreement, but I don’t see anything wrong with that.

You can say that you personally don't find anything wrong with it, but I still think it's disallowed by the CBA. I tried to google it and found the following:

https://atlhawksfanatic.github.io/NBA-C ... ntion.html
13.2 No Unauthorized Agreements.
At no time shall there be any agreements or transactions of any kind (whether disclosed or undisclosed to the NBA), express or implied, oral or written, or promises, undertakings, representations, commitments, inducements, assurances of intent, or understandings of any kind (whether disclosed or undisclosed to the NBA), between a player (or any person or entity controlled by, related to, or acting with authority on behalf of, such player) and any Team (or Team Affiliate):
concerning any future Renegotiation, Extension, or other amendment of an existing Player Contract, or entry into a new Player Contract; or
...
To me the above says, you can't agree or imply to agree on future undertakings, promises, assure the player that you have the "intent" to sign him later, etc.

Ya I assumed there might be some language like that…again it seems completely unenforceable to me though.

I remember the Wolves got hit hard years ago after getting caught doing that with Joe Smith.

They actually put the agreement in writing. Don’t ask me what that was supposed to accomplish.

Some more Booker lore:

LOL. He holds the arena record in an arena that has seen three games played, two of them by us.

Same game saw Ryan Dunn get career highs in points, rebounds, FG, FGA, 3P, 3PA and +/-. Career high after five career games, that is. Pretty sure those personal bests will be broken soon enough.
More fun with small sample sizes: Dunn sets new career highs in points, rebounds and +/- in 60% of his games. He did it in his first two games as well as the fifth. At that rate he’ll own the league by the All-Star break!

Not sure what other teams' schedules look like but this just feels like a lot of games with a few B2Bs mixed in. The break after the 20th will be nice, but we also need to find a way to cut back on Book and KD's minutes. We have the guard depth with guys like Monte, Allen and Royce. Maybe Dunn can pick up 3-4 minutes as a 4 to give KD a breather.

It's good for us fans though. A game every other day and sometimes two days in a row. Suns need to learn to blow out teams like the Blazers so they can use their depth more and even the end of the bench guys. Give it up for Portland though for not giving up.
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

If they’re not called the “one and Dunn’s” its a missed opportunity.
