Vogel wasn't authentic, his coddling of the stars wasn't respected, and then he tried being a tough guy when that isn't him at all.

I think the Vogel vs Bud difference is a very interesting case study in the relative value of NBA coaching. Many folks think that NBA coaches don't do much, that they just kind of roll the ball out there and let the players make it up as they go along. And it's true that not every possession is a specific called play that came from the coach; the guys do improvise much of their play as the game goes along.

But the coach still has an enormous role. Obviously there's all the practices and meetings and video room time before the game, working with the player, practicing defensive schemes and plays and sets. And then during the game, in timeouts and at halftime, going over what the guys need to adjust and what to look out for. Knowing when to take a timeout to blunt the enemy's momentum. Knowing who to sub in and when. And in the critical end-of-game situations, when there are lots of stoppages in play, calling well designed plays to get the team an easy basket or drawing up a good defensive scheme to get a much needed stop.

Bud is just clearly better at many of these things than Vogel was. It's night and day. We do also have some improvements to the roster, but we mostly have the same core guys. But we're playing much better overall. A greater emphasis on 3s, on pace, on having guards/PG bring up the ball, putting in guys for defense based on matchups. Bud seems to "get" these things in a way Vogel did not.

What did Vogel do last year to just absolutely tank this teams vibes?
Not hold people accountable. I don't think he was a leader of men. Loved hearing that about Bud from Beal. And is there any question that Beal is the best interview on the team? He tells it like it is.
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

We would've lost the last two games last season. I'll take it.
There’s been so much positivity coming out of you SS that I’m frankly a bit worried.

Nurkic still fucking sucks ass. Ship his ass out. Better???
Whew. Crisis averted.
