We’ll see…if the trade does happen, I expect Beal will be on one of the 3rd or 4th teams.

Every camp is leaking predictable stuff:

- Suns camp: won't include 2031 1st (trying to keep our price down)
- Heat camp: maybe won't trade him; willing to wait; exploring other offers (trying to bring our price up)
- Butler camp: Jimmy wants out before Feb (trying to make sure the two sides feel enough pressure to keep working on a deal)
- Beal camp: silent (probably doesn't like the rumors and doesn't really want to be traded)

When was the last time we really made a good trade? DA addition by subtraction? Royce O'Neale for not much?

It seems like the last time a trade made a really positive impact was the Chris Paul acquisition five years ago.

For a trade that had real long-term benefit, we might have to go back as far as the 2012 Nash trade that allowed us to draft Bridges in 2018. Or considering that Bridges was only here for five years and took Cam Johnson and four 1sts with him on the way out the door, maybe that doesn't qualify. The Joe Johnson deal in 2002 was pretty great, but he was only here for three years and didn't fetch much. Do we have to go all the way back to the first Nash deal and the Marion pick? Like Bridges, that was more a case of a great pick than a great trade. Are we going all the way back to Finley/Kidd? What am I forgetting?

Dumping Marbury and Hardaway for cap space to sign Nash?

Kinda like the Marion situation, it's more a great FA signing than a great trade. Nobody knew how Nash was going to explode, or we wouldn't have been able to acquire him so easily. Sure we had to make the deal to put us in the position to make the great pick/signing, but it wasn't so much about what we acquired in the deal as what we did with the pick/cap room afterwards.

(If you want to get technical, we actually chose Marion before that deal was consummated and received his rights in the deal, but you know what I mean.)

The Finals team was built in part upon several good trades. Rubio-Oubre-pick for Paul. Trading down from #6 to #11 to pick up Cam Johnson and Saric. Trading up for Mikal. Even last draft, trading down to get Dunn and additional seconds was smart too.

More in the mold of what you are suggesting, maybe dumping Hedo (and JRich) on ORL for Gortat and a 1stR. Getting rid of Bledsoe for expiring crap and a 1st. Markieff for a 1st from WAS. Getting Oubre for Ariza (haha). Sending Dudley to LAC for Bledsoe.

For sure though, there've been way more blunders.

I mentioned the Paul trade. Johnson, Mikal and Dunn are more about draft savvy than trade savvy.

Those were OK, but not much better than OK. Nothing exciting there.

That’s why I’m afraid of “We have to do something” thinking.

I keep flipping on whether this Jimmy trade actually happens, right this how I feel.

100 percent I think Jimmy gets traded

60/40 it’s not to the Suns. I think the warriors pull the trigger ultimately.

I’m not one who thinks a Beal-Butler swap makes us true contenders but it absolutely makes us better. Ultimately, even with Jimmy, we would still need to get bigger but most importantly, we need to fix the center rotation. We ain’t going anywhere with our current center rotation, with Jimmy or Jimmy. Yuck.

I think the Fox situation is the best chance we have at Butler. Miami would flip Butler and a pick or two for Fox, no question. The question is would Sacramento take Beal? If they are incentivized enough I think they might…would Beal go to Sacramento?

Is a KD for Butler trade possible? Then trade Beal for a big? What are the options there?

Miami would probably go for that, but IMO that's a lateral move at best (and probably makes us worse). And I don't think teams are kicking down our door offering high-quality starting centers for Brad Beal.
