Re: Jimmy Butler trade rumors
I'd rather have Beal than 36-40 year old Jimmy Butler making $50M per season.
What's bothering me most is Butler would bring very little to improve the current state of the roster and dramatically increase it's volatility longer into the future if Ishbia is willing to "offer him a lucrative multi-year extension".
My gut is telling me Butler is at best indifferent about coming to Phoenix for basketball reasons, he just knows a trick when he sees one.

Re: Jimmy Butler trade rumors
He might think he can turn the team around. He for sure sees that Ishbia is a free spender and the most likely to give him the money he wants.
Re: Jimmy Butler trade rumors
He is only eligible for a 2 year extension because of his age. You’d rather have Beal at 50 million over Butler?Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 2:45 pmI'd rather have Beal than 36-40 year old Jimmy Butler making $50M per season.

I do also think the primary reason Butler is interested in us is because Ishbia will pay him though.

If the money is the same, I'll take Beal. Swapping the two isn't raising the ceiling of this team to a different level.Split T wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 3:20 pmHe is only eligible for a 2 year extension because of his age. I can't know the exact reason, but a lot of Suns fans are ignoring Butler's warts, and it's a little tiresome when were seeing one of them right now in real time.

Re: Jimmy Butler trade rumors
Arizona Sports has an interesting conversation going on about this. Will Ishbia and team admit the Durant experiment didn't work especially after doubling down with Beal? Or does he triple down by going after and extending Jimmy Butler?
Will Suns admit failure or keep pushing with Jimmy Butler?

What say phx-suns.net? Go for Jimmy Butler or break up the whole thing and start over with Booker (maybe), Dunn, and Oso.

Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

Re: Jimmy Butler trade rumors
I would blow it up and reload around Book with players and picks. I've said that before and I think it can be relatively painless.
I would be open to keeping Beal if he really buys into a 6th man role. He can be an asset in that role.
I think making a deal for Butler and extending him compounds the issues we have already from a cap standpoint and ages us up further. I also don't think we'll be any more successful by swapping out "stars" and big contracts, it's not the way to build a real team and we're turning into the Sixers and Nets with guys like Jimmy, Harden, Simmons, KD, Kyrie coming and going. We need a path to sustainable winning.

Re: Jimmy Butler trade rumors
My preferred course of action is to start completely over…but if we’re not doing that, do something that gives us a shot. Jimmy isn’t a perfect player, but he does seem to check a lot of our boxes. I just don’t want some half measure like trading Beal and 31 for Vuc and change.
1. Blow it all up
2. Beal for Butler
3. I guess a partial blow up…but that’s tough to do without getting our picks back.
4. Minor tweaks
5. Go all in on someone that doesn’t move the needle.

Hmm, I just don’t agree. Butler is a significant upgrade over Beal imo. Yes Butler has warts…but the truth is he’s gonna play nice for the first couple years…that’s all we need him for.Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 3:27 pmIf the money is the same, I'll take Beal. Re: Jimmy Butler trade rumors
Also I saw online that Gambo is saying the suns would sign Jimmy to a 3 yr deal around 110-120 million. They’d have to not extend him right away and let him opt out. At that point we’re talking more like 37-40 million a year…that kinda seems reasonable. Did anyone listen to Gambo to see if that is what he said?
Re: Jimmy Butler trade rumors
I'd let him opt out and then change my phone number.

He'll play nice for the first few months and then it's a crap shoot once he's been paid.Split T wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 3:53 pmHmm, I just don’t agree. Butler is a significant upgrade over Beal imo. Bottom line, Jimmy Butler is an asshole and we're fast approaching the time when his nonsense isn't worth the trouble. Miami (Pat Riley) already reached that point last Spring.

Re: Jimmy Butler trade rumors
$35M/year is significantly more palatable. I have no issue with swapping Beal for him in that scenario.

Re: Jimmy Butler trade rumors
I just think it’s because it was time for his extension. He gave them 4-5 years without issues. They loved him until recently.Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 4:13 pmHe'll play nice for the first few months and then it's a crap shoot once he's been paid.Split T wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 3:53 pmHmm, I just don’t agree. This team can't have 3 wusses leading the team. Thats the bottom line. They need an alpha. One of them has to get swapped, talent be damned.

Remember it started with Pat Riley telling the media he should shut his mouth.Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 4:13 pmHe'll play nice for the first few months and then it's a crap shoot once he's been paid.Split T wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 3:53 pmHmm, I just don’t agree. An old white man in a position of power telling his black employee to keep his mouth shut.
Let that sink in.

I'm with you on the first two. My third would be to pursue Cam J by offering to take on Claxton's contract and send them our '31 first, with Beal going to a third team.Split T wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 3:51 pmMy preferred course of action is to start completely over…but if we’re not doing that, do something that gives us a shot. I don't get it. So if it was "An old black man in a position of power telling his white employee to keep his mouth shut" it would be different?specialsauce wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 4:32 pmRemember it started with Pat Riley telling the media he should shut his mouth.

Wouldn't help? Did you see the bench tonight? Our productivity and heart suck. Plug in some passion and productivity on a consistent basis at SF, and hell yes it would help.Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 2:45 pmI'd rather have Beal than 36-40 year old Jimmy Butler making $50M per season.
