Getting the ship righted is probably going to be painful since there's not much of a market for Beal. Their best bet is to hope for some financial flexibility in 2027 after Durant and Beal are off the books. Booker, Allen and O'Neale would still each have a year remaining on thier contracts if they're still on the roster.

Personally, I would look for the best deals for Durant and Booker, and do what I can to mov Beal, O'Neal, Allen and Nurkic and look to stockpile young players and picks, trying to avoid taking back any significant commitments beyond 2027.

Booker with be at least 32 or 33 before this team is back anywhere close to contention if they don't make any moves because they won't have the resources to make significant acquisitions (especially affordable players in the draft). To me no one on the team is untouchable, although there are a couple of players you would like to hold onto long-term (most noteably, Dunn).

I don't think Booker's trade value is going to improve as he gets older though. And I don't think he's the top guy on a championship contender.

It's just very hard to bottom out and get everything right with picks and FA signings. Always sounds good in theory. We missed out on a decade in the 2010s trying that. Whiffing on high lotto picks, signing the wrong vets, trying to mesh 18-19 yr olds with 28-30 yr olds to compete while developing the young talent. It's extremely hard. With Book, you have the established star to put players around and who can still attract talent. Not to mention the type of player who can maintain the standard/professionalism needed for practice and games.

I don't think Booker's trade value is going to improve as he gets older though. And I don't think he's the top guy on a championship contender.

But it seems other stars want to play with Booker, so if we keep him we have a better chance of doing something significant until we regain full control of our draft. If you trade Booker there is still no clear path to a traditional rebuilding since different teams own our picks until 2030. If it was just HOU, then maybe you bite the bullet and go for it, but MEM/ORL and WAS have swaps for our 2026 and 2028 picks. We can sell Booker to HOU now to get our picks back, but 2026 would be the first real year of a tank yet we would not have out pick. 2027 would be fine, but if we still suck by 2028 (more than probably under this scenario) we also lose that pick. Really don't see it.
