Re: Suns Land Nick Richards in Trade
This, just do the dirty work.
All the The hornets fans celebrating the trade on Reddit and Twitter not making me feel great tho lol
I guess he gots bad hands, does a lot of moving screen and gets lost defensively. He is a back up C after all but at the end of the day, his job should be a lot easier here. Going try to keep my expectations in check right now.
Re: Suns Land Nick Richards in Trade
I am starting to wonder if we gave up too much…I’m not gonna cry over late 2nds, but feel like 1 2nd probably should’ve been the price…We were desperate though.
Re: Suns Land Nick Richards in Trade
Nurk and Plumlee shouldn't be screening and rolling or playing high post and making decisions. Why not scheme to make KD the screener as a pop threat and make the defense decide to double Book/Beal or leave KD open on the pop? Why not keep Nurk/Plumlee down low and run two high screens with KD and Dunn where KD is popping and Dunn is rolling? There are better sets that could've been utilized. I feel like Bud went in wanting to run a certain offense that hasn't been great with our personnel and now he's dragged his feet on adjusting it.specialsauce wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 10:07 amIt's not Bud. Okogie and 2 2s for the Charlotte Hornets back up C is kinda hilarious, but it is where we are, just throwing shit at the wall til something sticks.

Re: Suns Land Nick Richards in Trade
Nurk and Plumlee are awful in the dunkers spot. That’s why we never saw that. I think if they don’t use Richards that way then it’s a problem.ShelC wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 10:18 amNurk and Plumlee shouldn't be screening and rolling or playing high post and making decisions. We also do use KD as a screener…teams just switch it so we pivot that into a KD high post look.
I also just don’t think offense is the big problem…it’s not where it needs to be, but we’re like 10th in offense. Our defense is like 26th or something terrible.
Re: Suns Land Nick Richards in Trade
Agreed. I'm not sure that Nick is going to be much of a needle mover, when it seems like Bud likes his offense to run through the center. I don't think Nick can do that, and I'm not sure that Bud is going to change his own philosophy on it.specialsauce wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 10:07 amIt's not Bud. Re: Suns Land Nick Richards in Trade
One second rounder to upgrade an area of need while sending a player to the Hornets that they don't necessarily need, another second rounder for them to take on additional salary and for us to save 24 million in taxes or some ridiculous figure like that.
I would probably want to give up that 3rd second rounder and send out Nurk instead, if we were re-doing this deal.
But it is what it is. This doesn't change the ceiling for us, but it does mean that we won't be giving up 20+ rebounds to the likes of Okongwu, who I really like but has never been known as an elite rebounder.

Re: Suns Land Nick Richards in Trade
Totally agree... Nurk and Plumlee may be the worst combo in recent memory in finishing at the basket, so they don't really pose a threat off ball at all. This is why I was moderately hopeful that Bud could unlock Nurk's 3 point shooting, but it wasn't meant to be.Split T wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 10:27 amNurk and Plumlee are awful in the dunkers spot. Hopefully Richards can clean up a lot of the defensive rebounding problems and be a solid pick and roll guy, though I am concerned that none of our guys are good passers in that scenario -- jury is still out on Tyus as he hasn't had an athletic big to work with here, but his past passing to Gafford gives me hope.

And you think Milwaukee wants Nurkic or Allen over Portis? Why would Milwaukee do that?

Re: Suns Land Nick Richards in Trade
I look at the trade for Richards a little like the trade for Kurt Rambis years ago. Sometimes a role player plugged into the right spot can make a huge difference on a team. Does this make them a contender? No. They still have issues with the personnel not fitting right and players wandering outside what their roles should be and trying to do too much on the court.
But it's a step in the right direction. Now if they could just leave the point guard role up to the point guards.....

This. But that requires the coach and our stars actually implementing and committing to a good offense. The Bobster wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2025 12:16 pmNow if they could just leave the point guard role up to the point guards.....
