I didn't really put much thought into sauce's anti-draft pick rant the other day, mainly because he is irrationally against building through the draft, so I didn't realize how inaccurate his statement was about OKC. After they finally ended the Russell Westbrook era, they only missed the playoffs for three years, and one of those years they finished 40-42. That's actually a pretty impressive turnaround.

Best offense in baseball by a longshot. Their starters had like the 27th best ERA though and that killed us. We missed the postseason by a single game. This off-season, they got the best starting pitcher free agent in all of baseball. I think you're underrating the Diamondbacks and definitely missing the mark on them last year. Sucking ass they surely didn't.specialsauce wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 8:11 pmYeah and the diamondbacks made the WS last year and went right back to sucking ass.Cap wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 7:59 pmHave you looked at the standings lately? Easy to say that now. If I would've asked you 5 years ago you would have told me differently. Or when they let Harden go so they wouldn't have to pay him. Or all the other cost cutting moves they've made over the years in the name of draft picks.

I don’t believe for one second we need to trade 2 1st in a Beal/Jimmy trade. One 1st seems more than sufficient. Especially if the rumor deal between us, MIL, TOR, MIA is to be believed. Seems like everyone wins tbh. Especially how much damage Jimmy has done to trade value.Split T wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 8:01 pmGood ole DCColdest…how 2 1sts for this and 1 for Jimmy?Wally_West wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 7:58 pm

Booker/Jimmy/Dunn/KD/Richards
Tyus/Grayson/Royce/Deni/Reath
That would be fun
Twos 1st and Nurk could honestly net something real nice imo.
So yeah, I really think something like this could get done. Not this specific deal, cuz I don’t believe DC one bit lol, but something similar? Yeah. People can try and clown this draft swap we did but multiple 1st is nothing to sniff at. People can be down on here all they want but multiple solid players have been traded already for 2nds, so two 1st has to catch peoples attention imo.

The diamondbacks did what they do best which is collapse. It was a collapse of historical significance to miss the playoffs.AmareIsGod wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 8:14 pmBest offense in baseball by a longshot. The year before was an exception, lucky strike.
They just let Walker and Pederson go.

Huh? Sounds like you’re saying actual win-loss records, playoff progress, and promising youth for the future are irrelevant; they suck despite all that because they didn’t follow your approach to team building that produces teams and future prospects like the Suns.specialsauce wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 8:15 pmEasy to say that now. I guess I just have to wonder if they’re willing to pay or going to have to part with a number of their young players when they’re due for contract extensions. It might play out like the Harden situation all over again. They have an incredibly bright future looking at it now and have a ton of draft picks still. At least they’re not in the situation we’re in where anything less than a championship is a complete and total failure.

Uh no.
Nobody has taken the Thunder as serious playoff contenders until maybe last year going into this year.
All the years with Russ everyone knew they were a regular season team. Their roster was weak and they let talent continuously go in the name of picks. They have not been serious about winning and that is part of why KD left to begin with. It started with them shipping off Harden for nothing.

They already have started paying. I think they overpaid Lu Dort. They paid SGA. They traded for and extended Caruso. They brought in Hartenstein at a substantial price.SunsShine wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 8:20 pmI guess I just have to wonder if they’re willing to pay or going to have to part with a number of their young players when they’re due for contract extensions. SGA was a no-brainer…I think they can get off Hartenstein when they have to pay Chet and Jalen…INFORMER wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 8:23 pmThey already have started paying. KD apparently wasn't serious about winning because he folded as soon as the Thunder went up 3-1 against the Warriors in the Conference finals.specialsauce wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 8:23 pmUh no.

I don't know what talent they "continuously" let go. It seems like you're just taking the Harden example and extrapolating it across the span of a decade.
Re: Suns News: Week 14 (1/20 - 1/26)
I’m curious to see what they do with Jalen and Chet. They must keep those two along with Shai. That’s gonna be quite a bit of money tied up into three players, but they at least have shown some serious potential together.INFORMER wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 8:23 pmThey already have started paying. I think they'll pay Jalen. Chet depends on his health and if he'll agree to a deal that reflects his questionable availability.SunsShine wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 8:29 pmI’m curious to see what they do with Jalen and Chet. It's like Ishbia just said, "I want to win a championship so I am going to get a coach that has won a championship." Doc Rivers is available, isn’t he?

Just don’t see why we have to give up 2 1st. I think we value Middleton more than people in Milwaukee do, they seem to think he’s a shell of his former self, who's injury history seems more suspect than Beal’s. Pat Connaughton is washed, Beal is a legit upgrade in their eyes over Middleton and Connaughton, and Portis is the price to get out of 2nd apron. Like i said, I think it’s a win-win for everyone. Not saying it’s a home run for everyone but I think everyone is either better and has more flexibility.Split T wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 8:25 pmI think it’ll end up being 1 1st to Miami and 1 to whoever takes Beal…would love if we can do it with 1Wally_West wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 8:15 pmI don’t believe for one second we need to trade 2 1st in a Beal/Jimmy trade.
