Not shooting the messenger and I appreciate when folks post trade ideas. But if we give up Grayson Allen -and- two 1sts and this is all we get back, I will be disappointed. I would rather not make that trade.
Yeahhh... I don't think Deni is even an upgrade to Allen. Lateral move at best.
I strongly disagree about Avdija and Allen. Avdija is considerably better due to his size, playmaking, and ability to finish around the rim. Allen obviously shoots the 3 better and he's a better defender against guards. I'd definitely be willing to give up Allen's 3-point shooting for a player like Avdija in return.
Avdija also has one of the best value contracts in the league.

Ya I think Avdija is good…I like Grayson and I’d really like to keep him…but if we can’t move Beal I think Grayson probably has to go..or Tyus…we don’t have room for 4 small guards that need starter level minutes..we’re just way too small.
Also that trade idea included Nurk for Robert Williams…you’re using a 1st for that move as well. So really it’s just Grayson and a 1st for Avdija…that seems fair. Avdija is 24 and averaging 14/7/3 this year. He’s 6’9 and can defend. He’s definitely got more value than Grayson. He’s also on a descending deal.
Honestly I thought he’d appeal to the crowd that wants to retool…he’s the kind of guy you want to target…young, cost controlled, and has a lot of potential. I think Portland would likely say no to the offer.
Book- only a good defender in the Olympics or playoffs
Beal- good defender wants to, doesn’t currently want to be at the moment. I wonder why…
You can’t have 4 guards, who are all completely ass at defending, and rely on them to guard big wings every night. You have to upgrade one of those guards to a wing, who at the very least is an average defender. Hence why we are trying to trade for Jimmy and if we ain’t trading for Jimmy, Grayson is probably our best chance at upgrading at wing but i think ultimately be Nurk. So trading Grayson for Deni would still be a step in the right direction.
Even a Beal and LaVine swap would be a step in the right direction, a very small step, but step at least.
That Nurk for Deni and Reath trade idea would be pretty legit. Too bad that has no chance at happening. *sigh*

Yeah, I would be ok with Middleton-Portis. But adding the pick stinks, they are as desperate as us (if not more) and, despite salary, Beal is the best player involved. And then you have to consider that a third team has to take MIL out of the second apron, so they also need compensation, and in terms of draft assets MIL is in a very similar position (if not worse) than we were before the trade for the three picks. Are we going to pay both MIL and this third team? That's tough.
Middleton seems cooked health-wise. I actually don't like that deal for us. Portis is interesting but not a difference-maker for a team with as many issues as we have. That trade is only good in the sense that Middleton's contract is shorter than Beal's.
Middleton has had health problems for the past 3 years straight. He played only 33 games in 2022-23 and 55 games in 2023-24, plus only 18 games (7 starts) this season. He's averaging only 12.6 ppg in 23 minutes. As much as Beal has been made of glass, when he has actually played, he has looked like an athletic and healthy basketball player. Middleton I think just doesn't have that explosiveness and athleticism any more. I liked him a lot in his prime but would consider him a huge risk at this point.

That could get tricky…Milwaukee won’t want to reroute the 1st or their only tradable 1st…will Detroit take Connaughton for a 2nd? I wouldn’t do it if we have to add compensation for Detroit.

Shorter and Cheaper, both Middleton and Portis expire next year. They both also don’t have no trade clauses. You’re also saving money this year and next year, before getting all the money off your books.
Beal isn’t working. He has negative value at this point because of the contract. Portis is a good rotation player that can play the 4 and 5. He fills a major need.
Ya Middleton is pretty much cooked as a top 3 option. He’s still putting up 12/5 on 38% from 3. He’s not a zero. I think both provide a better fit than Beal. Portis especially.

Yeah that's what I meant. For us it gets too expensive if we need to pay a 1stR each to acquire Butler and the salary dump by MIL, but who knows how Ishbia values Butler. Two things this FO has demonstrated is that they are not scared to pay and that they are creative in finding ways to get over CBA restrictions.
