Again, Nurk for Bogi makes us better. But what's that got to do with flipping Allen for first round picks and no talent?Wally_West wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 9:57 amI think that’s where Nurk’s contract comes in. That Bogi deal makes sense if Grayson is traded. You’re betting he is having just an off year, but if returns to his normal self, he’s way more dynamic of player offensively than Grayson. Personally hope we trade nurk for a bigger wing. My gut tells me They are gonna trade Grayson to the Magic for Gary Harris and their two ‘25 1st they got, giving us 3 1st next year. Probably won’t keep all em then before the deadline but maybe keep 2 to move up or move back to get more assets.
We're not rebuilding. We're fully in win now mode. "First round picks" don't help us win this year unless we're flipping them for something else. They're not going to make trades that make us worse this season and gives us less moveable sizeable contracts to flip. They're fully trying to make this work it may make sense to you (and me), but it's fruitless to discuss what just won't happen.

Check out this:Cap wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 8:57 amIn that situation, you still shop him around and get fair market value instead of just taking the first lowball offer.Ring_Wanted wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 1:08 amWord is the Mavs ownership did not want to pay Luka the ultramax. The rumor is that the new ownership is in this to make money and don't care about winning first. The 'we need a big, defense, etc.', is just spin to weather the storm, same as the alleged concerns about the player's dedication to his fitness (seriously man, even if not a gym rat this is a player who has carried you franchise to a Finals and has delivered GOAT performance).
I don't know man. Nobody can be this stupid and gullible and be a head of a NBA office.
Regarding shopping Luka around, that would be the sensible thing to do, but I guess not if you are hyperfixated on a specific player, Anthony Davis in this case. Which just adds to the overall display of incompetence.
Re: 2025 NBA TRADE DEADLINE
You'd be surprised how bad some execs and personnel guys are. It's relationships, smoke and mirrors, people failing upward.
I legit think this was Nico putting his personal feelings/preference for AD over the best interests of the org. Not that AD isn't a great player and the Mavs aren't still in a very good spot, but the haul was minimal and the optics around trading your franchise star and top 3-5 player in the league are terrible. Now they're doing a ton of spin airing our all of Luka's dirty laundry.

Re: 2025 NBA TRADE DEADLINE
I'm not really thrilled about the idea of trading Grayson Allen. He has been excellent for us. Last season he led the league in 3pt% and this year after a slow start (very understandable due to the birth of a child) he is now back shooting an extremely efficient clip over the last month or so. He's exactly the sort of player you want next to guys like Book and KD who draw all the defenders and double-teams.ShelC wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 10:12 amYou move Grayson if you think it gets you what you need to sweeten any deal for Butler.
Grayson's always in a tough spot. He's really good at what he does and he's a luxury if you have him on your team. He won't make a bad team good but he can make a good team better. I think he's perfect as a C+S threat off Book and KD but he always seems expendable.
Re: 2025 NBA TRADE DEADLINE
2 separate trades -
Beal to the Lakers
KD to the Warriors
Suns gets Reaves, Hachimura, Knecht, Wiggins, Kuminga, Vanderbilt, and four 1sts.
Or something, I don't know.

Of course we are in win now mode but that doesn’t mean you can’t be smart too. You don’t see how having multiple picks in next year’s draft, potentially 3, helps us both in the short term and the long term?specialsauce wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 10:19 amAgain, Nurk for Bogi makes us better. They could be flipped again before the deadline or you could potentially draft 1or 2 rotation players for next year. Maybe both? Having players with upside on cheap contracts? Sign me up. What if they develop into an all star? How is that not appealing? Combine picks to trade up, trade down for more assets. If we are gonna be a 2nd apron team then we need to find ways that help us improve for future years too.

Re: 2025 NBA TRADE DEADLINE
The Lakers wouldn’t do that. Reaves is better than Beal…I think we’re stuck with Beal captaining our tank if we do go that route.
I doubt we’d trade Booker, but who knows.
I think I’m rooting for no Jimmy and a surprise KD to Houston trade.
Give me some combination of Sheppard, Whitmore, Eason, Smith Jr, and 2025/2027 picks back. Get a lottery pick in 2025 and see if we can retool around Sheppard/Booker/Dunn/Smith Jr/Lotto Pick.
Trade Grayson to Orlando for a 1st plus swap rights back.
Send Royce and Tyus to anyone who will give us picks. I’d want to trade Booker this summer too I think…damn, I just fully went all in on the tank.
Trickiest one is getting that 2026 swap rights back from Memphis. That’s what makes a full tank tricky.

Re: 2025 NBA TRADE DEADLINE
I hear you but you have to give up something to get something. If Beal is not moved, Allen is very redundant and while his elite skill is in high demand, he also has gaps to his game as he can't really defend, does not rebound and does not have relevant playmaking ability. Not a kid either at 29yo. If you can use him to get a similar talent in a position/role of need, you need to try.Mori Chu wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 10:37 amI'm not really thrilled about the idea of trading Grayson Allen. It's not appealing because the Suns best player is going to be 37 next season. They are fully on board with trying to compete NOW, not in 3-4 years. It's delusional, but it's what it is.Wally_West wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 10:58 amOf course we are in win now mode but that doesn’t mean you can’t be smart too. So until they make any sort of hint that they're giving up on that dream, proposing trades that don't immediately benefit our on-court product is the same as dreaming that the Bucks will trade Giannis for Beal.

Allen is not the best complement to KD/Book.
Sure he's an elite shooter but he is so fucking bland and soft.
The Suns need high motor, physical role players to complement their soft stars. Royce, Grayson, Tyus, Mason, Bol Bol....these guys go to In N Out and ask for a burger with meat and buns only, no spread cause it's too spicy.

What they really need is some perimeter defenders. Booker, Jones, Beal and Allen are collectively horrible defensively.specialsauce wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 11:35 amAllen is not the best complement to KD/Book.
