Post-trade-deadline OPTIMISM thread

Post by Mori Chu »

Okay, the mood here is dark and negative and shitty. And there are some good reasons for that. But I want one thread, just one, where we try to be positive and talk about things that are good about the team, or good about recent events or decisions. Can we do that?

Here is my challenge to you: Post a reply in this thread with something positive, something you like or appreciate about the team or the roster or the direction of the franchise, something that gives you hope, something good.

Go!

Here's mine: Despite all the BS, we do get to watch Devin Booker play every game, and he is one of the greatest Suns ever, maybe the very greatest Sun ever by the time he hangs it up. It is a joy to watch him and I don't want to ever take him for granted.

Another point of positivity: Even though we wanted to get better at the deadline and didn't, at least we didn't do something really stupid like re-double-down and trade away all our picks, or trade KD for Butler or Kuminga, or something ridiculous like that. Even if you think the current team is bad, there are multiple ways in which we could have made it worse. And we didn't. Sometimes patience is the greater virtue.

Another positive: At least we aren't the Dallas Mavericks, who just torched their entire franchise to the point that the fans are protesting outside the arena and burning jerseys and stuff like that. A mediocre season is nothing compared to just giving away your franchise's generational player.

My positive: We have a draft pick in 2025(two actually if you count our 2nd). We should have another rookie to cheer for next year!

“Post-trade-deadline OPTIMISM” is a lot of wasted letters for “psychosis.”

They also returned an all NBA talent who is probably a better fit for their roster construction.

We're gonna end up trading KD and Booker for what ifs.
Love, Hurts.

I guess a positive is Bobby Marks said if we waive Martin and Micic we get under the 2nd apron. Then we can combine players for trades. So that may make things easier in the offseason?

That's about all I got tho. Just waiting for the offseason to see how this all shakes out.

They are gonna be a whole 9 mil under the apron with those 2 off the team with only 8 rostered players. Off season is either gonna be a massive reshape or a scrape the bin for FA again.

I appreciate the effort, Marty. Dunn is my lone bright spot even though he's struggled since the ankle injury and hasn't been getting many consistent minutes from Bud. Booker has also played better lately and him becoming the all-time franchise leader in points was very cool. I think he'll be here for many more years and set a franchise points record that will be very hard to beat.
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

I like to think Dunn's inconsistent minutes are similar to that of Booker's when Hornacek was the coach. Dunn looks like he's got the right mindset and skillset and I fully expect him to contend for Most Improved Player next year.

It's gloomy here?

Seems to me people can't get enough of speculating about blowing it up and KD/Booker trade packages. There will be ample time to continue that discussion for the next 5 months.

Ya I’m not actually sure we will be under…I have us over if we fill the roster with vet min guys plus the 30th pick and a rookie min.

Here is something positive, in the sense that it made me laugh again. Chuck going off on the crappy Suns. This was some years ago but you can spot a young Devin Booker just getting started.

What's the worst that can happen if we never trade for KD? We miss the playoffs and the picks we didn't trade are in the lottery?

No way we stay 30. Totally gonna trade back haha.

We also gonna trade Grayson to the Magic for Anthony Black and a ‘26 pick to get under even more. Maybe even deal Royce too?

We Gonna be just a bunch of young and cheap talent surrounding Book, Beal and maybe KD, honestly wouldn’t mind it tbh. Hope for a decent leap from Dunn and Oso.

I know it don’t seem likely right now but I think there’s a real possibility of Book tellin Ishbia he doesn’t want KD traded and we obliging.

My optimism is all Dunn. And if not him, then I’m done for a bit I suspect
