I get still starting Tyus but did we promise he’s finish games as well? He isn’t running the offence at the end of games and he is a complete liability on d - like when Morant waltzed by him for an uncontested layup off a made basket by the Suns when we got it to 4 (I think) late in the 4th.

Fundamentally he is a role player and a pretty good one. But his d is bad (which stands out more in a team like ours than good defensive teams or Washington where they are not really trying to win). On offence he is a safe pair of hands which is good in one way but also means he never makes the opposition react or change what they are planning on the defensive end - have you ever seen a team throw a double team at Tyus when he makes a move? So he is decent at what he does but that doesn’t really take any heat or KD or Book, except maybe when he’s off the ball hitting 3s (but Grayson is better in that role).

To sum up: ok player, not a great fit for the team. No need to play him down the stretch in games.

IMO Tyus would be a really effective bench PG when we don't have many of our Big 3 guys out there. Starting him kind of wastes him on offense (just bring the ball up and hand it to KD) and he's bad on defense, so there's no point to playing him.

I don't mind us breaking some promise to a minimum level backup PG we told could start. There's no bait and switch here where we tricked him into signing and then threw him on the bench after training camp. It's been 50 games and we aren't winning. The bigger question for me is, what's the plan if he is brought off the bench? Are we just scrambling for answers like we seem to be doing or is there someone we can turn to who can provide better play and help us win? We benched Beal, benched Nurk, have swapped Dunn for Royce for Grayson for Bol. Is there a difference in who we start? Or should we keep starting him and just cut back on his minutes?
He’s only on a vet min because we promised him the starting job…he’s not a minimum level backup. He had deals for 10 million a year on the table. You don’t bench someone that gave up 10 million to come start for you…especially not when you don’t have a good alternative anyways.

Yeah, it's really not that difficult to understand in addition to the fact that your word is your bond. He wasn't told that it was conditional.

The real fix here is, don't promise players that if they sign with you for less than market value, you'll give them a starting spot or a certain amount of minutes no matter what. I realize "go back in time and don't do that" isn't a viable solution today, but we should learn never to do that again.

It's the same logic as, "Don't ever give a player a no-trade clause." Like, if Booker asks for that as a condition for signing his next contract, say no. If he then refuses to extend, trade him. Let's learn from the albatross that is Beal's untradeable contract. Don't agree to terms you won't actually be okay living with.

Yep, it's quite simple. Let's see if the Suns (Ishbia) learn from their mistakes.

Isn't the real problem KD, not Tyus?

Game Score Predictions Results:

Kryptonic Grizzlies by 4
Mori Chu Grizzlies by 6
SunsSince92 Grizzlies by 8
SunsRIt Griz by 11
Superbone Grizzlies by 13
Carno Grizzles by 13
Split T - DISQUALIFIED
ShelC - PAINFULLY DISQUALIFIED
TOO - APATHETIC

Final score: Memphis 119 - Phoenix 112 for a 7 point Memphis win.

Our winner tonight: Mori Chu, only off by 1 with special mention to SunsSince92, also off 1 but on the other side.
What’s the rule? Why does Griz by 6 beat Griz by 8 when the Griz win by 7?

Because those were the posted rules. Like Price is Right, under beats over but only in the case of a tie. Unlike Price is Right, over/under doesn't matter if different margins.

Was that an arbitrarily chosen tiebreaker or is there logic behind it?

Well, I didn't want them to be equal. I like the idea that the conservative prediction beats the overshot guess. You seem to take umbrage to it. It's all in fun, man.

No umbrage, just curiosity.

I like the rule if it helps me win. If I lose on such a tiebreaker in the future, I reserve the right to change my mind and hate the rule.

The rule should be that nobody cares what I think the rule should be.

I'd be happy to hear your thoughts on it. Just don't write a 10,000 word essay on it! :P And don't forget, a lot of money pride is on the line for a lot small group of people.
