Even a pretty measured guy like Bourguet is saying we should move him to the bench and not worry about it.Superbone wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 9:49 amYou guys are willing to break promises so easily. It's bad enough that they are playing so poorly and now you want to ruin their reputation on top of it?Kryptonic wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 4:05 amId bench him regardless of the agreement…. What does it say to prospective free agents that we won't change things when they aren't working? Who would want to play for a coach/org like that? I do understand where you are coming from but this FO tried to trade KD behind his back. Any reputation they had for loyalty is already in tatters.

I don't know if Bud would change anything anyway. We never promised Tyus that he would finish games yet Bud plays him then too. And even though we're now giving time to Bol and TyTy, for some reason he barely plays Dunn now. He our best defender and what we need most, but no!
Re: Game Day: Suns (26-27) @ Rockets (33-20), Wed 2/12/25
KD had no such assurances. Like he said, everybody can be bought and sold (other than LeBron and Beal) in this league. That's just an NBA given. Just like anything else, the NBA is performance based. What we have obviously isn't working so it is obvious that changes are needed. We could also talk to Tyus about a new role as well but he'd have to agree to it.SunsSince92 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 9:56 amEven a pretty measured guy like Bourguet is saying we should move him to the bench and not worry about it.Superbone wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 9:49 amYou guys are willing to break promises so easily. I would have loved to other than his fatal flaw of ugly player relationships. Ayton and Crowder come to mind. We all (but one) understand his frustrations with Ayton but you still have to coach him to the best of your ability. With Crowder, you can't allow personal beefs to affect the play on the floor or ability to play a player. Those player tiffs don't help the team.

I think too much is being made of the promise stuff. I know people will say it's totally different, but I'd bet Beal and Nurk didn't expect to be benched either. No promises in this league. Sucks that Tyus bet on himself and is in this situation but ya gotta give it the old "it's a business" routine. I don't think anything about benching Tyus will hurt the Suns in trades or free agency. They've done enough damage to themselves already and the KD trade fiasco is probably more damaging at this point. They gotta right the ship tho because whether we break a promise or not, the franchise looks in complete disarray and dysfunctional.

You can only do so much for a player. If he plays himself out of a starting position, that's on him.

Because it is completely different. Beal didn’t take 80% less salary to come here. Let’s say you own a company and you hired someone away from another job that was going to pay them 5X as much as you were offering because you promised them a better opportunity for growth…would you feel fine a few months later demoting them to a position with low growth potential?ShelC wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 10:30 amI think too much is being made of the promise stuff. It’s not like Tyus is underperforming…he’s doing what he’s always done. We made the error in judgement in thinking he would fit. I would not break that promise…especially not to win 42 games instead of 40. I’d cut him and let him go find a better situation before I benched him.

Seems painfully obvious now, but we should’ve known Booker/KD just needed to be surrounded with a bunch of defense/hustling/shooting…

Feels like that is not much of a debate and matches the eye test.
