Kleen's on the mark here. We need some control over his next couple of years.

Due to 2nd apron, we can only give him a vet min, which by definition can only be two years…so this year and next.
Sign him to a 2 year vet deal. As of right now, I’m not sure what his market would be but I think securing his bird rights would be in our best interest. I think he’s a solid rotation glue piece right now and I’ve seen enough to be comfortable with him being our main back up point guard for next year.

Im not sure what his ceiling is or how sustainable him starting next to book is but he’s proving to me that his floor is at least a solid piece in a 9 guy rotation. Would it be that surprising if in a year or 2 he’s averaging a solid 12 and 7 starting next to Book or for another team?

We can’t offer him much but I’m ready to commit to him as best we’re able too. I want to lean into this youth movement that has emerged.

I didn't know where to properly put this and have it seen; is Ryan Dunn the amalgamation of Shawn Marion and Derrick Jones Jr.?
I love comparisons, and this was my "baby".
I have similar comps for Oso and Collin.

JJ may whiff on top picks, but I dare you to fault his record with "intangibles" players.

I'll go out on a limb and say that Ryan could; NO, WILL BE the next Paul George, Kawhii, Trey Murphy 3,......

I was, then lost, and now am an avid card collector.
Dunn, Oso, and Gillespie have reinvigorated be again.
There is a 1/1 Collin RC, along with an Oso 1/1 on Ebay. Joke prices tho.

I am HEAVILY investing in Ryan's future tho. He's our next star;
he's already! taking fadaway jumpers at the end of shot clocks, while at the same time fukin guarding Giannis(this game; best player always)!!

Extrapolate that into his career. 🤔🤯

Respectfully I doubt that Ryan Dunn is ever as good as PG13, Kawhi, or others like that. He's really good though, and he could certainly be a starting forward in this league for his career. I think he really needs to work on his shooting, mostly from 3 but also elsewhere on the floor, to become more of a consistent threat. Without that he runs the risk of being an Andre Roberson type who is out there for hustle and defense but the opposing team doesn't respect him. I think Dunn is better than that, but he needs to work at it every summer.

Jaden McDaniels is the most accurate modern projection for Ryan Dunn.

I think it was Eddie Johnson on the broadcast last night that compared him to Dan Majerle. Not a bad comparison.

With Dunn, his ceiling is as high as his shooting allows it to be. He needs to get dramatically better at that to be mentioned in the same conversation as Kawhi etc
But his D, motor and general smarts will make him a handy player regardless.

That's a pretty good one from a historical Suns perspective. I think it's unlikely Dunn will develop the same offensive skill set Majerle had, or at least he has a long way to go.

Dunn has basically no in-between game right now because he can't self create or put pressure on a defense with the ball. He has to significantly improve that before earning any serious comparison to former All-Stars.

Did Matrix have good handles? I remember he had a busted looking shot. I can't remember. I kind of remembering him struggling trying to self create. I'm feeling old.
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

Dunn's shot is the last thing I'm worried about.
Many a player has come into the league with a bad shot and improved. His shot is every bit as good as Mikal's was starting out.
It's everything else that makes him special to me; the shot will come over the summer with reps.

I have liked Dunn in the roll..he’s been a decent finisher even on those little floaters. I’m not sure he’s ever going to be much of a creator on the ball…but if he can be respectable from 3, attack closeouts, make reads off the short roll, keep hitting that floater, and being a menace in transition and on cuts, there’s an avenue for a high level offensive player. That’s basically the Marion offensive package.

Marion could reliably dribble attack and finish, but that's irrelevant when comparing him and Dunn.

Marion was special because he was a 0.00001% athlete and Dunn will never come close to matching him.

Ya he’ll never be Marion, but maybe like a 75 to 80% version.. Marion was 20/10 with 2 steals and 1.5 blocks…I’ll take 16/7 with 1.5 steals and 1 block

I think you’re underestimating his potential. He’s basically already doing that per 36 as a rookie.

What he needs is a solid coaching staff that believes in him (and perhaps more importantly, that he believes in—I hope he didn’t lose faith in Bud, if he continues to be our head coach) and an offseason developmental plan for his shooting/free throw shooting and overall offensive game. His rebounding is already way better than Mikal, and while it it may never reach Marion level, if he can improve upon the 6.7 per 36 he’s already averaging as a rookie, that will be fantastic for a SF (which is the position he needs to get most of his minutes at).

I’m less caught up in the actual numbers…but yes you are right that he’s not that far off.

I just like him being utilized the way Marion was…probably used more as a catch and shoot guy than Shawn was and less as a roller, but that’s more to do with trends in the game overall. He won’t be as good as Shawn because like FF mentioned, Dunn doesn’t have the same level of athleticism, but could impact the game in a similar way.

The Matrix had a pretty special skill in his ability to read the court and anticipate. He just had a knack for seeing where the play was headed and being there in time for the dunk, rebound, etc. He had incredible bball intuition.

I do agree that Dunn should play a similar style, but he's not that level of player at all.
