So a team like the Knicks may have even more interest if they get knocked out by the Celtics and see Brunson being their only shot creator in the playoffs. It's why GS wanted KD too - they're an older team that was looking for offense and know their window is closing around Curry and Dray.
Who else could fit that description? The Clippers? Lakers? Mavs?
Knicks make sense by your logic. Lakers don't really have any picks or young assets to trade, so they're out. Mavs could be an option, simply because their GM is a moron. But he may be about to get fired? Maybe his replacement will also be a moron? Clips could be interesting, but do they have the assets and picks we would want? I don't see any young blue-chippers on their roster to steal, and I bet their pick stash is depleted for the next few years from putting their current core together.
I kind of don't hate Minnesota as a possible trade partner. They'd probably want to give us Randle (meh, but he's not terrible), but I'd ask for one promising youngster and multiple picks. Not an A+ haul but it might end up better than those other teams could give us. I would also want to hear what the Knicks best offer would be. And KD would probably like the idea of playing with Ant and having Gobert to anchor their defense; better talent fit than he has had here.
Indiana? They aren't going to win the title, so they might want a KD on their roster. But I don't think KD would want to go there.
Dark horse: Boston? What if they lose in the ECF to the upstart Cavs and feel like their title window is closing for their current nucleus? Ask them to gamble away their future picks in a package? Main problem is, I don't see what players they could send us that they would be willing to send, that we would want, that would match the salaries closely enough. Might have to be a multi-teamer.
