Alright, I’ve been thinking about making a 5 year prediction competition…here’s how it goes:
Each person ranks their top 3 teams in who they expect to be the best over the next 5 years.
Everyone also picks their All-NBA team of the next half-decade, plus one of them to be their MVP.
Top teams will be scored as follows:
10 points for 1st place(Champions)
4 points for 2nd place(losing in the finals)
2 points for 3rd/4th place(losing in the conf. finals)
1 point for 5th-8th place(losing in round 2)
0 points for 9th-16th place(1st round exit)
-1 points for 17th-20th(knocked out during play-in)
-2 points for 21st-30th(failure to make play-in)
An additional point to the regular season 1 seed in each conference.
As for players, they will score points as follows:
All-NBA 3rd team: 1 point
All-NBA 2nd Team: 3 points
All-NBA 1st Team: 5 points
3rd place MVP finish: 1 additional point
2nd place MVP finish: 3 additional points
1st place MVP finish: 5 additional points
Conference Finals MVP: 1 additional point
Finals MVP: 3 additional points
How the scoring would have worked in 24-25:
OKC: 11 points(title plus 1 seed)
Indiana: 4 points
Minny/NYK: 2 points
Cleveland: 2 points(2nd round exit plus 1 seed)
Boston, Denver, GS: 1 points
Houston, LAC, LAL, MEM, MIL, DET, Miami, ORL: 0 points
ATL, CHI, SAC, DAL: -1 point
Everyone else: -2 points
Players:
SGA: 14 points
Jokic: 8 points
Giannis: 6 points
Tatum: 5 points
Mitchell: 5 points
Ant: 3 points
LeBron: 3 points
Curry: 3 points
Mobley: 3 points
Brunson: 3 points
Haliburton: 1 point
Cunningham: 1 point
KAT: 1 point
Harden: 1 point
JDub: 1 point
Siakam: 1 point
To be clear, this would be going forward, so none of the above points would count. Goal is to see who can predict the most successful teams and or players over the next 5 years. I’ll keep track of everyone’s prediction and update every year. I know it’s sort of a long payoff, but I think it will be cool to see how close(or far) our predictions are.
As for how we determine the winner, everyone will rank 3 teams 1-3…let’s say getting a team in the exact spot gets you 3 points and correctly identifying a top 3 team(just not the right spot) gets you 1 point. If you pick a team for a top 3 finish and they are outside the top 8, you lose a point. If they are outside the top 16, you lose 3 points.
As for players, correctly identifying the MVP will get you 5 points. Correctly identifying All-NBA 1st team guys gets you 3. If you pick a guy for 1st team and he’s not top 5, but top 10, you get 1 point. If he’s 11-15th you get 0 points. If your pick falls outside the top 15, you lose a point.
For fun:
Predict how many total points the suns get over the next 5 years(remember negative points are a thing).
Also predict the highest scoring Suns player(this might seem too easy, but the answer could be no one, haha).
Also, non-suns related, but predict which player not in the nba currently(current rookies also excluded, so can’t say Cooper Flagg) scores the highest.
Lastly, does an expansion team show up on the list at any point, and if so, do they ever have a season with positive points?
5 year Prediction Competition
Re: 5 year Prediction Competition
Teams:
1. OKC Thunder
2. Cleveland Cavaliers
3. San Antonio Spurs
Players:
MVP: Victor Wembanyama
2. SGA
3. Jokic
4. Mobley
5. Ant
For Fun:
Suns score -3 points over the next 5
Booker snags a 2nd and 3rd team all-nba and gets 4 points
AJ Dybantsa is the highest scoring non-nba player as he makes a couple all-nba teams.
No expansion team scores a single point.

Re: 5 year Prediction Competition
You've put a lot of thought into this Split but this is above my pay grade.
My brain kind of glazes over when I read that. We'll see. Maybe I'll study it when I'm fresh and put something together. Meanwhile, I'm going to put something much simpler together...

Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

Re: 5 year Prediction Competition
Here’s the TLDR:
1. Rank the 3 teams you think will do the best over the next 5 years.
2. Pick the 5 players you think will be the best(and include who you think will be the absolute best).

Re: 5 year Prediction Competition
Seems to me that OKC has been in this situation before
Are we more confident that they will handle the cap this time?
