2025 Suns Preseason News
Re: 2025 Suns Preseason News
I’m not a big Grant believer. He seems to be on the downward trend and doesn’t do the stuff I’d really want him to do. He can score and has historically been quite a bit more efficient than Green, plus he is bigger…but for the size advantage, he doesn’t rebound at all…he’s basically a SG. Still, I could see the value in a 1 year replacement of Green for Grant, but we’d need to be a contender for me to want to do that. I don’t think Grant stays better than Green for more than a year, and it’s very possible Green is better this year. Grant also hasn’t been able to stay healthy.
This is all to say I would need additional assets to trade Green for Grant. I want less to do with Middleton.
I don’t really see an in-season Green trade. About the only one I could see would be for Lauri Markkanen…and we’d either need a jump from Green or to add assets for Utah to consider that.

I would not want either of those guys (Grant or Middleton) in a trade. Middleton seems way past his prime and unable to stay healthy. And Jerami Grant seems like a good-stats bad-team guy who just wants to put up shots and doesn't actually make his team better. Grant also is no spring chicken at 31 years old, has questionable motor and attitude, and in general Blazers teammates and fans don't seem to love playing with him, and he seems overpaid.ShelC wrote: ↑Wed Oct 15, 2025 4:35 am2 guys who could be targets - Jerami Grant and Khris Middleton. Both are older which I'm not crazy about, Middleton is kind of cooked but an ending deal. Green could fit with the Wizard's youth movement and they could use a scorer there.Charlie Smithy! wrote: ↑Tue Oct 14, 2025 9:13 pmQuestion is, what or whom do you think he might be moved for?
Grant has almost the same money left on his deal for the same time amount of time as Green. Has trouble staying on the court but maybe that changes if we're competing. He could give us some shooting and shot creation as a 4/3, fits the physical profile with a 7-3 wingspan. Green might not fit as well in Portland tho since Sharpe is their SG.
Grant would be my main target tho. Maybe a 3 way trade with Middleton to Portland, Green to Washington and Grant coming here.
I don't love the fit for Jalen Green here, but at least he is a young lottery pick who has played hard and can really score. I would rather at least give him a chance here than dump him for guys like these who seem like legitimately bad contracts to have on the books. I don't mean to trash your trade ideas, it's good to think through what the likely market for Green would be and whether we would want to pull the trigger on such trades. I might be more interested if the other team would throw in 1st round picks.

Tyrese Samuel and Damion Baugh were cut today. No suprise. I would guess we'll be seeing them on the Valley Suns roster this year.
The Suns have one more cut to make, I am guessing it'll be David Duke Jr., Brea, Hunntley and Livers look to stay as Two-Way deals.

Re: 2025 Suns Preseason News
I get fit and efficiency issues with Green but he’s a young prospect with at least one strong skill that he can rely on to build his game around. And he’s a great person and teammate by all accounts. I’m not opposed to moving on from him for the right move but trading Green for Middleton or Grant is not that different from trading Luka for AD.

At least AD is good.pickle wrote: ↑Wed Oct 15, 2025 5:28 pmI get fit and efficiency issues with Green but he’s a young prospect with at least one strong skill that he can rely on to build his game around. Agreed. It’s not a perfect analogy. Just saying trading young for old part.

Still don't love being in this position with Williams. I would do 3 years, 17mil for sure tho. My fear is that he plays 70 games, we overachieve as a team and then give him $30M+/year and immediately regret it. That, and the fact that we just used our #10 pick on our supposed center of the future, means we're kind of stuck. And no, I don't think Maluach will be playing PF next to Williams longterm (like Mobley and Allen) and I don't think it'll be some "embarrassment of riches" where we can move one guy for some great package of players and picks down the road. Why an extension could get done: Phoenix has already shown a commitment to Williams by sending out two first-round picks -- the No. 29 pick this past June, plus a 2029 first-rounder -- to get him from the Charlotte Hornets. So, with that investment already in the bag, getting Williams on a long-term contract with the franchise would make some sense. -- Bontemps
Why it might not: Williams' health might be the most scrutinized in the NBA. The Lakers traded for Williams in February, only for him to fail his physical. After the trade was rescinded, Williams averaged 28.6 minutes, 15.1 points, 10.7 rebounds and a career high 1.3 blocks. He has never played more than 45 games in any season and has missed 116 games with various injuries (back, left foot and thumb). A likely approach is to evaluate Williams this season and then engage in contracts next summer when he is a restricted free agent. -- Marks
What I would offer: A three-year, $51 million extension. The contract would be a flat $17 million per season and include exhibit 3 (prior injury exclusion that protects the Suns if Williams has a foot or back injury). The last year of the contract would be non-guaranteed but would have a minutes clause that partially or fully protects the salary. For example, if Williams plays in 55 games in 2025-26, 2026-27 and 2027-28, the contract would be fully guaranteed. If Williams reaches the criteria in one of the next three seasons, the protection would increase from zero to $5.66 million. -- Marks
Will it happen?: It's hard to see it happening, even with the investment in draft capital the Suns put in to get Williams. He's a talented lob catcher, but since he's already dealing with injury issues out of the gate and has played in only 106 games in his career, this seems as if it will be a wait-and-see situation. -- Bontemps

Exactly why I hated the trade.
Re: 2025 Suns Preseason News
Kevin Durant really screwed this franchise. He's going on my bad Suns list for sure. I knew we gave up way too much when we got him but I had no idea how toxic he would end up being for this team.

On the other hand, I think we ended up with a better haul than an aging Jimmy Butler, as much as I like him. So, probably better that it didn't happen anyway.

Re: 2025 Suns Preseason News
Those clips of KD make clear that he was thinking only of himself, and trying to tank his own trade value and refuse "good" (for the Suns) trades so that whatever team he went to would not have a bare cupboard. I watch those clips and see a spoiled and entitled brat who doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut. Shouldn't talk like that about your current team straight to a camera. I will be hate-watching Houston this season hoping to see them get worse with KD.
