Oooooooof, Fleming gets intentionally fouled by the Spurs and then he misses BOTH FTs. That sucks for the kid. He was just starting to get his confidence. The basketball gods are cruel sometimes.
Really hope he can brush that off and remember the awesome moments he had in this game.
(beating this drum yet again) The loss isn't on just one guy, and it will be tempting to blame Fleming's two missed FT at the end. But I can't help but notice that Jalen Green shot 7-20, which does not help. To be fair, my man Booker also shot 8-22 so it isn't on any one guy. Really tough loss by the narrowest of margins. Great game-winning shot from Wemby who was spectacular all night. What's too bad is that I actually thought our bigs did a pretty decent job tonight. Both Oso and ManMan did about as good with Wemby as you can hope to do, and they also contributed some rebounds and points along with it. Tough, tough loss.
Unfortunately Book’s regular Achilles heels in 3-point shooting (0/4) and turnovers (4 versus 5 assists) didn’t help either.
We can quibble with Fleming being out there, but who else do you want? Bouyea is really the only one…unless you have Oso inbounding. Bigger issue is Booker never even tried to go get the ball.
Also, looking at the replay, Fleming had passed the ball back to Gillespie before the foul. Should’ve been a no call. You can’t intentionally foul someone who doesn’t have the ball in the final 2 minutes.
Lastly…you can’t let Wemby take that shot with no double. Goody should’ve doubled as soon as Fox ran to the corner. Make Wemby force up an earlier shot or attempt the pass to the cross corner and let Fox try and hit a 3.
Also the timeout by Ott ended up being killer…Booker almost got trapped, but he got it away to Green and broke their press…they probably would’ve had to foul Green.
Gut punch loss of the season. Book was really rough in crunch time and Green had like 4 possessions with misses in a row that let the Spurs back in it. Super frustrating loss. Worse than the Golden State game.
I feel for Sheer, but like Split said, it shouldn’t have come down to that.
