Yeah, man, it's been a while. But she does live in another state. We're trying to see each other once a month for now. Plus, she's 10 years younger than me so there's that.Kryptonic wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2026 5:52 am“In town” means she’s mail ordered I think? Hey, man. I'm turning her into a Suns fan. And she lives in Minny where the TWolves have been tearing it up. I took her to her first NBA game which was the double OT thriller in Phoenix against Orlando with the Green buzzer beater. So, her expectations are kind of high.Kryptonic wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2026 9:49 amGood for you…. Still digging The Leftovers. Got going on it again once the playoffs settled down and I caught up on other shows like For All Mankind. Watched S2E6 last night. I'm really curious about season 3 now and if it totally changes tone again or not. But don't tell me!

Re: Movies / TV Shows
Widow's Bay on Apple is terrific. Really well done Horror-comedy starring Matthew Rhys that has at least 2-3 laugh out loud moments per episode, but doesn't cheat on the horror stuff.
Re: Movies / TV Shows
I started it. Love Rhys. Watched the first episode. Will continue after catching up on some other shows.

We just about gave up after the 1st episode of S2. It really jumped the rails. We stuck with it and S2 ended up being pretty great. S3 starts off like S2 (totally different story from S2 but doesn't feel like S1 or S2). We're hoping it bounces back like S2 did.Kryptonic wrote: ↑Wed May 20, 2026 10:35 pmIt was good for a bit then goes off the rails and lost us lolAmareIsGod wrote: ↑Wed May 20, 2026 6:35 pmWife and I just wrapped up Season 2 of Mr. Mercedes. Re: Movies / TV Shows
My wife and I have been watching Your Friends and Neighbors on Apple TV. It's a show about Jon Hamm living in a rich NY neighborhood as a stock broker. He loses his job and out of desperation to maintain his money and lifestyle, he turns to stealing from the houses in his own neighborhood. It's a flawed show but we have enjoyed it. Hamm is great and carries his part of the show very well. There are some decently strong supporting performances by recognizable actors like Amanda Peet, Olivia Munn, and others.
The show is currently just completing Season 2 and we're about halfway through S2 ourselves. We thought S1 was a well done self-contained story. S2 is definitely bumpier. The show is at its best when it just focuses on Jon Hamm and his exploits. It loses its way when it focuses on the other characters too much. There are some yawn-inducing plots in S2 related to Hamm's wife, his kids, his parents, random friends and neighbors, etc. that just make me want to skip ahead until we are back to Hamm stealing and getting into and out of trouble.
I keep mentally comparing the show to Dexter and Breaking Bad, not in terms of its exact quality but just some of the main structures they are going for narratively. These shows all have a component where you get the guilty pleasure of watching the main protagonist turn bad and commit crimes. In each, you are excited to see criming each episode. (Is Dexter going to kill somebody in this one? Are Walter White and Jesse going to cook some blue meth today? Is Jon Hamm going to rob a house and steal some cool shit?) In the case of all three shows, there are interesting side characters, but they are mostly interesting when they are directly interacting with the main character and their story. I like Skyler White and Walt's son and his DEA cop neighbor Hank, but I don't want to watch a long scene about them having a barbecue or shopping at the store or whatever. I want to see them interacting with Walt, his behavior, his crimes, his story. That's where Your Friends and Neighbors really falls off in S2. They have lengthy scenes where, say, Hamm's ex-wife is upset because a dog is pooping on her lawn. Or we watch his son struggle to choose between two potential girlfriends at his high school. Yawn. None of this has anything to do with Hamm or his thieving, and way too much time is spent on it.
Despite the above, we like the show and would recommend it, or at the very least, season 1. Hamm is really good, season 1 is tight and well written, and the good parts outweigh the bad.

I watched and enjoyed S1. Haven't started S2 yet so that's disappointing that it sounds like it's fallen off. I'll watch after finishing For All Mankind, The Leftovers, and maybe even Widow's Bay since I watch E1.
Speaking of Dexter, the last season (2025) was really good.

Re: Movies / TV Shows
My wife and I have started Widow's Bay, too. Really like it. Just as you say, horror/comedy and Matthew Rhys and the cast are great. (Stephen Root is also a joy in this one, and I am really liking Kate O'Flynn's character.) The horror aspect is mildly scary without stupid ass jump-scares, which I really despise. They go for more of a suspense vibe with an occasional gasp scare, not the loud strings and sounds that make you jump from the damn noise. And the comedy aspect hits pretty consistently. Rhys plays the mayor of a small island town off the East Coast that may be haunted. He's trying to keep the town running smoothly and promote more tourists to come visit, meanwhile spooky ghost/supernatural shit is happening and he's trying to figure that out and protect people from the danger. But there's a lot of funny situations, cringe comedy, good one-liners. It is well done.
We just threw it on as a filler show while we wait for From season 4 to post on MGM+ (don't want to sub for more than one month to watch it), but we have ended up really enjoying it.

I finished S2 of The Leftovers last night. Looking forward to watching S3E1 tonight. Every finale has been wild so far. I'm curious to see what happens in S3.
