Premature Suns/ Brian Gregory Draft Prediction Thread

Post by Danimal »

As an attentive to usual draft threads where we post like a child’s Xmas wish list, I thought we could list players that we think fit the suns current archetype.
Keeping in mind:
- we only have a 2nd round pick this year
- there’s a small chance the gm trades some vets for additional 2nd rounders
- our gm hasn’t been afraid to trade multiple 2nds to love up for the player he really wants.

Thoughts?

I thought I’d take a run to see what chat gpt predicted for 2nd round suns sleepers. Please see below. I did look at the you tube highlights but wasn’t overly enthused on these.

List includes:
Prospect name
Position
Likely Draft Range
Height
Wingspan
Why Fits Suns Style

Sayon Keita
PF/C
~40–60
7’0” (213 cm)
Not officially listed
Long, versatile defender, rim protection, high‑motor rebounder

Klark Riethauser
SF
~40–60
6’8” (203 cm)
~6’11” (211 cm est)
Long wing with size/length, defensive upside

Ivan Kharchenkov
SF
~45–60
6’7” (201 cm)
~6’10” (208 cm est)
Tough, high‑effort defender who plays with energy

Dame Sarr
SG/SF
~40–60
6’6” (198 cm)
~6’9” (206 cm est)
Long, athletic wing; versatile defender who can guard multiple positions

Miles Byrd
SF
~45–60
6’10” (208 cm)
~7’0” (213 cm est)
Smart two‑way defender with defensive instincts

Another I’ve seen highlights of which caught my attention:

William Kyle III from Sycrause.
6’9 with a 7'3" wingspan, elite athleticism, and defensive versatility to switch

The defensive highlights are impressive but seems very limited other than inside finishing offensively. Currently projected in the 2nd round
Seems Gregory likes his bigs from last year to have at least a hint of outside shooting ( the opposite to the 2024 draft picks )

Anyone can watched him at all?

I have some doubts about Kharchenkov. He's not a horrible player, but it seems to me that he thinks he's better than he is. He still has a lot of work to do to become a productive NBA pro.

We're picking somewhere between 45 and 50, right? There's like 200 guys who could get the call that late in the 2nd round, and none of them really stand out.

I like Milan Momcilovic just for his name.
Sergio de Larrea won't fall to us, but I like his game a lot.
Tarris Reed Jr. or Motiejus Krivas if we just need some size.
"Hey, Jane - get me off this crazy thing called love." - Charlie, but also Suns fans wishing we didn't have to watch more 4th quarter small ball but knowing we will tune in for the next game.

I don’t know anyone in the draft outside the top few…I think I’d take a project…give me a high ceiling even if they likely bust(can you bust in round 2?)

You can bust out! All these names sound made up to me. Of course, I don't follow college basketball. Maybe I'll pay more attention when they get down to the last few games.
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

There's no way for me to effectively scout for the 47th pick - there are 200 guys who could get drafted there. It'll probably end up being some dude I've never seen.

But here are some guys I like who might be available when we pick:
Jack Kayil
PG - Tough with a strong foundation and looks like he will be very strong. Good handles and makes some nice passes. So-so shooter.

Sergio de Larrea
PG - Tall, long, good shooter, flashy passer.

Keyshawn Hall
SF - Scorer, and an active defender.

Izaiyah Nelson
PF - Great defender, good rebounder, doesn't shoot jumpers
"Hey, Jane - get me off this crazy thing called love." - Charlie, but also Suns fans wishing we didn't have to watch more 4th quarter small ball but knowing we will tune in for the next game.

It sounds more likely we end up picking in the 30s…any prospects in that 25-40 range we should be looking at?

I just hope we don't do something short-sighted like trading a future 1st just to move up a bit in this draft. Ishbia seems to be mostly learning his lesson about mortgaging the future, but I still wouldn't put something like that past him.
