I think over the years looking at people’s general reactions to players / trades I’ve concluded that I’m higher on chemistry than most. I find Herro to be an average player who can score, and from that perspective he may be a bit better than Green. But I don’t see him as a point guard and I think his best role is also 6th man, not unlike Green. I know that BBIQ is a thing but if Green puts his mind to it he has a higher defensive ceiling than Herro, tho I am not holding my breath. But in terms of chemistry, Green is A+ and Herro is very low in my opinion. He’s always struck me as a bit of a dick and this latest punching incident with Bam doesn’t win him any points (I realize he’s on the receiving end of the punch and I’m maybe victim blaming a bit).

Good points. I also agree that Herro is not a pg…I just see him as the fully formed version of what we would hope Green could be. I’ll concede that I’m not considering chemistry much. I do think Green is pretty solid from that standpoint. I’m also very willing to play it out for a bit and see what happens. Maybe Green will surprise us.

Scoot could be an option and might be realistic and gettable. Plus he's Klutch.

I used to like the idea of Scoot, despite the poor shooting. But this past season his assist numbers dropped and he averaged only 3.7 apg. I would prefer to target more of a distributor.

Yea I was never really a Scoot guy but I think there could be more there. At the very least, we'd have a legit ballhandler and he seems to be getting better defensively. There aren't a ton of great, realistic options who check all the boxes. Then it becomes a question of whether we trade just to get anyone here who can play point or patiently wait for the right opportunity that may not come.

Obviously, you never know what teams actually think and we've seen enough stupid trades to know that it only takes one sucker to trade for a guy, but in terms of value, if you ask me, Green makes around 20M more than he should based on his ideal role for any team as a 6th man (let alone PHX with Booker, Brooks, etc.).

You can make the point that due to age and athleticism, he has untapped potential; but I don't think teams will buy it because the sample size is large enough at this point (and last season he even lost his status as an iron man). So my guess is that to the vast majority of teams, he is little more than a non-expiring bad contract and, as such, the only thing you are getting back in a trade is a similar bad contract, unless you are willing to give up actual assets.

I agree with the assessment of Green’s abilities on the court and the relative pessimism that he will tap that potential to become more, but I would push back on him being 20 mil too expensive. We did get lucky with CG taking a friendly contract but any contender will have a sixth man making far more than 15 mil per. Green might be on the higher end of contract figures but he’s by no means an albatross contract, especially since he only has two more years (one of which is a PO).

Our old friend Markieff Morris tweeted out that Harden goes to the Suns, Jalen Green goes to Cleveland, and then LeBron signs with the Cavs. While it would give the team the playmaker that is needed, I would not want to give up a young player with upside to get someone who is one step closer to the retirement home.

Maybe Collin will just take another leap and save us…then Green can move to his more suited role as bench scorer.

He’s saying the right things about accepting blame and trying to change which is a good first step. It is only the first step of very many to rehabilitate his image and by far the easiest.
Hopefully he can indeed become a changed and better man, not so much for the Suns but for those near to him in his personal life. (clearly it would benefit the Suns if this happened too)
