Re: Around the League: May 2014
I don't understand the hype he is getting as candidate to so many coaching openings. He is a first time coach with no experience as an asistant. He played for Jackson and Popovich, big deal, then Robert Horry should be next in line for Coach of the year.
Re: Around the League: May 2014
Cavs just made David Griffin permanent GM and fired Mike Brown.

I like one of those moves.Shabazz wrote:Cavs just made David Griffin permanent GM and fired Mike Brown.

I never understood the hiring of Brown by the Lakers and then the Cavs again.

Actually it should be "there're" or "there are" since we are talking about plural nouns.carey wrote:"There's." Spelling/Grammar. :pTheOriginalOriginal wrote:Just because theres a lot of posts/posters doesn't make it a good forum IMO. RealGM has a lot of halfwits that just like to hear themselves talk.. I think I'm the only one of those here

That's crazy. Where are you hearing that? That's a ton of money for a first-time coach.carey wrote:6 years 30 million dollars for Steve Kerr to the Knicks? How did he get a six year deal as a the first time coach?

What old interview?Mori Chu wrote:I enjoyed this old interview with Stan Van Gundy. Seems like he's the leading candidate to take the Warriors coaching job, which I think would be a great hire for them. I think he'd immediately be one of the top 3-4 coaches in the league.

I don't know about top 3-4, but I do respect his coaching ability, regardless of what Shaq says, and he would be a good hire. The only reservation I would have is how he would connect with the players.Mori Chu wrote:I enjoyed this old interview with Stan Van Gundy. About time for Brown, I don't know how he keeps getting gigs. That team was a mess.Shabazz wrote:Cavs just made David Griffin permanent GM and fired Mike Brown.
Good luck to Griffin although I've never been overly impressed with his GMing skills. We'll see how he does.

SVG just signed for the pistons coaching vacancy.

I can't believe SVG took that Detroit job. That org is messed up. Their roster stinks and I just don't see anybody there with high basketball skill or acumen. Why go to a place where you're the only talent? That Warriors job looked way better to me, to say nothing of all the other NBA coaching jobs that are undoubtedly going to be available by this offseason.

Power is power.
Re: Around the League: May 2014
As a fan of a team in the West, I'm happy SVG didn't take the GSW job.
Re: Around the League: May 2014
Yeah I guess you can chalk it up to the fact that SVG was sick of working under people who tried to micromanage or undermine him. Working under Riley was a bad experience for him. So he picked the situation where he had the most control and power and long-term stability. I can see how he would not want to go to GSW where the owner seems overbearing so far.

Because it's a fair point. I loved KJ as a player, probably my favorite player of all-time, but he has a lot of dirty laundry in his closet for which he has never been held accountable. So for him to be leading the mob calling for Sterling's head is a little much.carey wrote:I KNEW KJ wasn't going to get out of this mess unscathed: http://deadspin.com/the-man-who-helped- ... 1576960521
