Around the League: Week 15 2/1 - 2/7
Re: Around the League: Week 15 2/1 - 2/7
Minnesota (just) beat a short-handed Chicago, so we're clearly below the T-Wolves in the standings now. Unfortunately Brooklyn lost to Philly.
Re: Around the League: Week 15 2/1 - 2/7
Warriors vs OKC was a great game tonight. I watched pieces of that rather than much of our own stinker. OKC had it within 2 with a few minutes left, and then GSW got hot. Curry made a layup, Klay hit a 3, before you know it, the game's over. GSW wins 116-108 in the end. Durant ended up with 40 points; Westbrook had 27 and 12 assists. Curry scores 26 with 10 assists.

Nobody, nobody is stopping GSW from repeating this year.
Coincidentally, we are set to play, and lose to, both of these teams before the all-star break. LOL.

I wonder what the Warriors could beat us by if they played flat-out for 4 quartersMori Chu wrote:Warriors vs OKC was a great game tonight. They could double us if they wanted to.

The Warriors are so far ahead of teams that I think it sets up nicely for sellers at the deadline.
Normal years theirs usually 4 or 5 teams that can say all we need to do is get "healthy" or stand pat or add a "backup pg" or something like that. The Win now teams like the Clippers,Cavs,Spurs,Thunder can't honestly think they are better then the warriors. They are going to have to make moves.
The Thunder, Honestly, I think are the warriors biggest threat.
“Kobe had said (after the play) I wasn’t hugged enough as a child,” Bell recalled. “My mom kind of found him after the instance and we had beat them and offered him a hug in the bowels of the Phoenix arena. She really feels a part of that story.”

Another coach and former PG bites the dust: Derek Fisher fired.

The New York Knicks have fired coach Derek Fisher after a 23-31 start to his second season, sources tell ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne. New York has lost nine of 10 games and five in a row. The Knicks went 17-65 in his first season.

Weird move. Not because of the record but because Derek was Phil's boy. Rambis is too I guess but still. Sometimes the Triangle offense just isn't a fit. Refreshing to see the square peg round hole approach foolishly used by someone on other than the Suns franchise for once.

This sucks just because it will mean more competition for the best coaches this off season.
Re: Around the League: Week 15 2/1 - 2/7
Here's a weird thought, maybe struggling teams shouldn't insist on hiring guys that have absolutely no coaching experience. (Knicks, Nets/Bucks, Suns, who else?) Why would you expect good results from this practice? It's not like they are taking over a HS JV team. These are the best athletes in the world.

Because by hiring green GMs and coaches, it allows Mr. Robert Sarver to have more say in the day to day operations. Don't forget, he's got a golden touch. I remember I read that when he first took over.djy2j wrote:Here's a weird thought, maybe struggling teams shouldn't insist on hiring guys that have absolutely no coaching experience. I remember hearing that too. What they didn't mention is after his touch, how long it took for the gold to actually form.Superbone wrote:Because by hiring green GMs and coaches, it allows Mr. Robert Sarver to have more say in the day to day operations. Yeah, I haven't seen any gold. Just a lot of tarnish. (Maybe a little fool's gold.)djy2j wrote:I remember hearing that too. I think this is because apparently Warriors and Celtics won the jackpot with their rookie coaches and now everyone is looking for their miracle man.djy2j wrote:Here's a weird thought, maybe struggling teams shouldn't insist on hiring guys that have absolutely no coaching experience. Re: Around the League: Week 15 2/1 - 2/7
Yeah, I agree with Hermen and Bone. I think there are a lot of other reasons that young coaches are trendy lately:
* They're cheaper: A veteran guy like Thibs or JVG will probably cost you many millions a year, while a young Fisher/Hornacek type won't.
* They may be more loyal: If they turn out to be the next big thing, they'll probably feel like they owe it to your team for giving them a chance and stick around.
* Potential: This is the big one. It's the same logic as drafting a 19-year-old in the NBA draft. You take the guy with potential and a high ceiling, swinging for the fences hoping he'll turn out to be a star.

Re: Around the League: Week 15 2/1 - 2/7
Right, although the Warriors pretty much proved just about ANY one can coach that team. And rookie coach is kind of a vauge term nowadays. Brad Stevens is having success in the NBA but he was also a pretty amazing college coach. Lue has some assistant experience. Watson has very minimal assistant coaching experience. Fisher and Kidd had NONE.Hermen wrote:I think this is because apparently Warriors and Celtics won the jackpot with their rookie coaches and now everyone is looking for their miracle man.djy2j wrote:Here's a weird thought, maybe struggling teams shouldn't insist on hiring guys that have absolutely no coaching experience. Not sure why executives think players can immediately transition from the court to the bench.

June 10th 2014: “Today marks the next step of this journey for the New York Knicks franchise as we name Derek to lead the team as its head coach.” Jackson said. “Our relationship began 15 years ago, and over time, it has come clear to me that he and I can form a great partnership once again.”
February 8th 2016: "Phil Jackson says that the decision to fire Fisher was his and that he'll look for a coach with a philosophy similar to his, which we can assume means a coach who runs the triangle."
Like WTF?

Let's dispel with this fiction that Robert Sarver doesn't know what he's doing. He knows exactly what he's doing. He's trying to change this franchise.Superbone wrote:Because by hiring green GMs and coaches, it allows Mr. Robert Sarver to have more say in the day to day operations.
