They ended on an annoying cliffhanger that took all of the excitement out of what should have been one of the best, most emotional scenes in the entire series. By the time the season premier rolls around, the luster of the scene will have been completely lost.
That said, whoever this critic is that says he's done with the show after this episode is reacting like a 15 year old girl.
Yeah, like I said, I am fine with them delaying the emotional part for the start of a season. I would actually prefer that. I am excited to see the next chapter, and that next chapter starts with the death of a loved one. This current chapter ended with the introduction of Negan.

I believe it was the final straw of a long alienation. He is one of the most respected critics in the business & without reading his work I don't know how you can make a comment like that.

When it's the number one watched show on television, they're doing something right. If a critic is swearing a show off and the whole country is watching it, clearly he's in the minority.

deep down I really hope it was Carl he killed. He is an awful actor and really just served as significant a role as Judith. I know it won't happen, but would be nice. I'm hoping its anybody but Glenn after this long, drawn out process.

Judging by social media last night, he is not the only one. I'm not certain why people watch TWD. It's ... not good. I'm pretty sure it's just because "zombies." I also think people watch it because other people watch it? If that makes sense. They want to be part of the zeitgeist but don't actually take enjoyment from watching the shitty show.

I disagree. I watch it in spite of zombies. I want to watch the arc of these characters as they go through push and pull of society vs no society. If there was a less crazy thing than zombies to force that construct, I would be much more into it.
You need them to produce, and produce well. So they need a leader. And you never will have more control over them than if their fearless leader is afraid of you. Don't make him a martyr.
I'm not sure where you get your intel, Carey. It's a well made show that I look forward to watching each week and seeing where the characters go from here. It's not about the zombies. They are just a unifying element.
I just watched it. Was stuck in the hospital for a few days. Damn Atrial Flutter.
TWD is my favorite show. I don't watch it because other people do or just because it has zombies in it. I watch it because it's pretty riveting. I am getting older and have seen about 457 different detective cops shows or silly comedies in my lifetime. I am bored sick of most tv shows now because I have been there done that so many times. They are all just rehashes of other rehashes. I have always been attracted to end of the world apocalyptic movies.
TWD puts you in a world where ordinary people are forced to constantly fight for basic survival in a very scary world. At this point in time Zombies are least of their worries. I was a fan of the Postman and this reminds me of that minus the Zombies. Jericho also.
I liked the season finale. Of course it's a cliff hanger. Of course people are pissed about not knowing who died. Of course every single one of them will be glued to the next episode as soon as it comes out.
If the experts think a show is great that usually means I am going to hate it. If they hate it then I will probably like it.
Who died? They kind of made it seem like a few people were on their last episode. If I'm Negan I kill Rick. Chop the head off the snake if he thinks Rick is a threat. Like Negan said, Ricks group has killed a lot of his guys. He sent guys to kill them for that and those guys were killed. How can you not see Rick as a threat. They won't kill Rick because the show needs Rick. Negan went way out of his way to round up all of his guys in order to make a big impression on Ricks group. Negan shock and awe. He doesn't want to kill them, he wants to own them.
Eugene gave Rick the plans for bullets just in case he died. Then he took over driving the Winnebago and gave Abraham a big hug goodbye as if it were the last time they were going to see each other. It seemed early on that Eugene was going to be the guy even before Negan made his introduction.
I agree that Carl is a pretty bad actor and kind of wish he was the guy. If you are Negan you are pissed and want to cause as much pain as possible to Rick. Beating his son to death right in front of him would do the trick.
Michone would be a good pick since she is Ricks girlfriend but, I don't think Negan knows that and they didn't really show Michone at all this episode and I think if they were going to knock her off they would have done something like the Eugene thing and made her a bigger part of that episode.
Negan was saying that one of them had to be sacrificed and they they all kind of looked at the ground freaking out except Abraham. Right as Negan says it and walks by Abraham, Abraham looks him right in the eye and I thought he was going to stand up and offer himself up.
Negan messed with Maggie a little bit. Glen threw a fit. Maggie is very sick and frail. Negan is looking for strong healthy minions to do his bidding. Sharks kill sick and dying fish.
Eugene, Abraham, Carl or Maggie are my picks.
Rick no different than Negan? I disagree. Negan does seem to enjoy inflicting pain, fear and death. He is pissed that they killed his men because they were more like property to him. He searches out for groups of people he can enslave making him more powerful.
Rick has gone through lots of changes on the show at different times. He and their group were risking everything to save Maggie right before they were captured. Rick was seriously concerned for her well being as if she were one of his family. I can't see Negan being seriously concerned for somebody else or risking his safety to save somebody else. Rick was getting cocky, arrogant and over confident. Now kneeling he has that same look he had when he lost his marbles at the prison.
Looking ahead, Morgan stumbled upon a couple of guys wearing the same sort of armor that seemed friendly. I have a feeling that group along with Morgan and Carol will tip the scales against Negan in the end.
In four years, you don’t have to vote again. We’ll have it fixed so good, you’re not gonna have to vote.

Good post, Nodack. I agree with almost everything you said. Who knows how big the White Knights' group is. Plus, both Carol and Morgan can be pretty bad ass.
You too with the maybe it's Carl? Am I the only one that heard Negan say to cut out his other eye if anybody screams during the beating? It's not Carl.
The more I think about it, the more I think the "clues" they dropped leads to Abraham, so I think it is someone else. The character I would be most upset by is Eugene. I love how Josh McDermitt plays him. I really would be happier losing any other character in that line-up.

I go back and forth on this, but am leaning towards thinking they have to go big since they left it a cliff hanger. I don't think Sasha would be big enough. Honestly, same probably goes for Abe and Eugene. If they go big, it has to be someone that has been there since the beginning (or at least Season 2). That means either Rick (not going to happen), Carl (can't be based on what Negan said), Glenn, or Maggie.

Can we call agree that spoiler tags should only be used for things beyond where the current airings/releases are? It seems silly for us to keep using spoiler tags to talk about things that have already happened, or guessing what may happen next. Comic stuff that hasn't happened in the show should have them, and leaked pictures/info from the set too. And maybe we should change the title to be clear it is from the show, not the comic.
I am sure nearly everyone knows that they killed Glenn here in the comic. But they also killed Abraham already (he was swapped for Denise's death in the show). And Glenn seems to be a much bigger part of the show than he was in the comics, at least to me.
All of that leads me to believe it is Abraham that buys it. Even though an hour ago I said Glenn. And before that I said Michonne.
If I had to pick which of them would be best for the story, I am torn between Glenn and Michonne. We have already had the break of the protector/weakling bond between Abraham and Eugene, and Abraham move on from Rosita, so I am not sure what his death buys the story.
But that might be why he's the one. He's probably the easiest to write out of the story. If I had to pick for myself, it would be Abe or Sasha. This show hasn't had a pattern like GoT for killing off the most popular characters.
ETA: My choice above was for myself. Not for the betterment of the story. Just wanted to make that clear.
