It doesn't sound like he really did much. It sounds like he was just making a bit of a ruckus, and a cop showed up and tried to haul him off, and he protested, so they said he resisted arrest. Stuff like this makes me wonder whether the cop would have been so quick to act if he had been a clean-cut-looking Caucasian guy.

You don't have to wonder. It's the south so it would definitely have had a different out come.

Of all the NBA arrests I've ever read, this has to be the silliest. Really Arkansas? A 19 year old kid cursing outside a skating rink? How terrifying. Of course he didn't want to be arrested you CAN'T BE ARRESTED FOR THAT.

That's just Arkansas being Arkansas. The color of Goodwin's skin probably didn't help him either.

I personally don't subscribe to this. The Cops selectively enforce laws and bend them whenever it suits their needs. Then again, I'm not black. I've talked to quite a few black folks that tell their children to do exactly what cops say so they won't be shot. These aren't bad folks I'm talking about either.

It really is one of the most ridiculous things I've seen people be arrested for. I assume it was dont to diffuse a potentially bigger situation. Maybe the officer was doing him a favor?

Only one side has been heard so far - and folks in Arkansas must have some fatally thin skin.

That's really irrelevant. You don't listen to them because you like them or because they're beyond reproach or outstanding people. You listen because they have authority and power. You listen because you should be able to intelligently analyze the cost benefit.

Was the right to continue to loudly use profanity to his associate really worth getting arrested? Was it so hard to go somewhere else (maybe somewhere not public) and act like a fool?

Unless a cop is asking you to do something wrong, legally or morally, or is trying to commit a crime against you, just listen to him/her, especially in a situation this trivial.

So, you're not really interested in civil rights then? It's not at all irrelevant. This is where it starts. Then it goes on to illegal road blocks to check your IDs for no reason whatsoever. And on and on from there. I obviously am jumping the gun a little bit since I don't have all the facts. But what it sounds like, is a typical cop flexing his muscle for no legal reason. Maybe he was trying to prevent a situation, but there's probably a dozen better ways to do that than arresting a kid.

You're making a case as if I'm defending the officer; I'm not. I'm not even really discussing the arrest at all; I'm discussing what led to the arrest.

It's about being reasonably yielding.

It's like if you're sitting in a coffee shop, loudly tapping your pencil on the table. The guy next to you says, "I'm sorry, but would you mind stopping that?" You can handle that two ways. You can blow up and say, "It's a free country and I have the right to tap my pencil however loudly I like!" Or you can just stop tapping your pencil. The other person did not make an unreasonable request.

Apparently cop kryptonite is if you whip out a cell phone and start recording your interaction with them. A lot of cops HATE that and will make up some reason to force you to turn off your camera or even break it.

Where was that story about the city (London?) that started putting mandatory cameras on their cops recording them while on duty, and then complaints of police brutality dropped like 82%?

Agreed - whole big washtub full of ass there.

This team has the atmosphere that fosters growing together - the original author shows their ignorance right off the bat with the "ability to develop" crap. The Morris twins alone debunk that - the 23 game improvement trumps it outright.

Plus, who's to say we don't ultimately use a pick or two to draft and stash? What an ill-informed piece.....

That being said ( ), knowing McDonough's history with Boston, we probably will be bringing in more veterans at the expense of youth. Would you rather win a championship or field a roster of 19 and 20-year-olds? Wait, don't answer that.

Seriously, my gut tells me we'll bring in one or two rookies at most and we will start tinkering with some name free agents or dabble in a trade or two for proven players.
