NBA News: Offseason
Re: NBA News: Offseason
And they supposedly have interest in Dion Waiters, along with the Kings. Not sure what either team is thinking. Makes sense OKC is shopping Waiters tho since he an Dipo fill the same role. OKC needs some shooters tho.

Any teams looking to clear capspace? Could we pick up an asset by simply absorbing a contract? I know almost everyone has space, so that plan may not bare fruit.

I'm glad to see *other* teams going after Barnes. That just makes it that much less likely that he'll end up a Sun.Sunsfan4life wrote:Sixers planning on making "Serious" push for Harrison Barnes. Gross.
Re: NBA News: Offseason
McD has come right out and said explicitly he doesn't expect to win a lot next year. I don't think he would say that if he were trying to woo big name free agents.
It's a little amusing how much consternation there is around here about the team unwisely offering a huge contract to a FA who doesn't fit into the team's long-term goals. There has been no indication from anyone connected with the franchise that they'll do any such thing, but it would be such a stupid thing to do that people are having a hard time believing they won't do it.

Re: NBA News: Offseason
Since nearly every team has max space this summer, anyone you sign as an FA - at least at the beginning of free agency - you will be almost literally be paying them more than anyone else would. Hence, immediate negative trade value.
The logic isn't perfect, but it's food for thought.

You know he is getting paid. He is even a member of the USA team now. It's going to be gross no matter who gets him, and BC has never been afraid of trying to make a splash in free agency. Rashard Lewis 2.0. Let's just pray it is not Phoenix.Sunsfan4life wrote:Sixers planning on making "Serious" push for Harrison Barnes. Gross.

This has been the strategy for two summers in a row so it is not hard to see why people are scared. This time the imclination seems different but after IT3 and Chandler nothing would surprise me.Cap wrote:McD has come right out and said explicitly he doesn't expect to win a lot next year. There is a big difference between LeBron James/Lamarcus Aldridge and Harrison Barnes. IT3 made some sense at the time and as much as they deny it, the suns obviously only signed Chandler to get LA.Ring_Wanted wrote:This has been the strategy for two summers in a row so it is not hard to see why people are scared. Well, Lebron officially opted out.
Let's try for him again.

He's just bumping up his salary. It's tough to feed a family on only 24 million dollars for a whole year. Heck, that's only 2 million a month! Plus, Rich Paul needs to get his cut of the increase.Uncle_Gene wrote:Well, Lebron officially opted out.

I hope you're just bullshitting. LeBron should go for as much money as the market will pay him. And I'm never going to feel bad for Dan Gilbert.Superbone wrote:He's just bumping up his salary. I thought you are saying we'll make a play for Chandler Parsons and I damn near had a heart attack.Ring_Wanted wrote:This has been the strategy for two summers in a row so it is not hard to see why people are scared. I'm curious what your take on Beverley is. IIRC you live in the Houston area? I only follow him from afar and am basing my decision on the fact that he plays tough defense and doesn't complain when he doesn't get the touches on the offensive end. I am tired of prima donnas who think defense is optional.INFORMER wrote: Honestly, I would probably only have Middleton on my team. You couldn't pay me to have Pat Beverley on my team.
Re: NBA News: Offseason
On that podcast with Woj, McD talks about the Celtics trying to get Garnet, but he didn't want to go to Boston with the roster they had. So they went out and picked up Ray Allen and a couple of other pieces before trading for Garnet.Split T wrote:There is a big difference between LeBron James/Lamarcus Aldridge and Harrison Barnes. If he thinks he has a chance at a Durant or LeBron, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see more Chandler type signings.

My friend has a theory that Coleangelo put him on Team USA to sell it to Sixer fans when they sign him to a max deal. haha. Little far fetched, but he has no business being on TEAM USA's roster.

Prediction: P.J. Tucker nets atleast a 1st at the deadline next yr He is a very usable piece for a contender.

Brillant article on Sam Hinkie and "The Process in Philly". Believe it or not Hinkie is highly regarded by alot of fans here in Philly still. I think his major flaw was expeting to be given alot of time without showing significant on court results. Think he could of added a few more vets as well to try and help situations and teach these guys how to be pros. But its undeniable how bright the Sixers future looks. I wonder if he'll ever get another crack at being a GM in the "L". Among has best moves were.
1. Taking on Carl Landry and Jason Thompson's contracts for a 1st and the right to swap 1sts with Sacramento.
2. Turning a marginal NBA starter in Michael Carter Williams into what looks like a high lotto pick (Thanks to us and Milwaukee)
3. Signing multiple 2nd rd picks to team friendly long term deals.
4. Turning the #10 pick (Elfried Payton) into the #12 Pick (Dario Saric) and a future 1st and 2nd from Orlando.
He could of drafted better then he did (Okafor ugh), but caught a really bad break with Embid's foot. I always questioned what Hinkie was doing but after the dust has settled and seeing who the Sixers r threatening to blow their money on (Harrison Barnes and Dion Waiters would have Hinkie rolling over in his grave) I feel for him a little bit Regardless, Adam Silver shouldn't stick his nose in any NBA team's business. These are the league rules. If someone wants to try a different approach to building a team within the rules so be it. If it's so bad change them.
