So apparently after day 1 of free agency - deals for 27 players worth $1.7 BILLION. Wow.

To put it in perspective, here is a list of countries with GDPs -- the entire economic output -- under 1.8 billion:

9 Brazil 1,772,589
10 Canada 1,552,386
11 Korea 1,376,868
12 Russia 1,324,734
13 Australia 1,223,887
14 Spain 1,199,715
15 Mexico 1,144,334

Italy, India and France are close to this number as well.

So, the value of the contracts handed out in day 1 of free agency was as much as the entire economic output of every man, woman and child in Brazil, Canada or Korea for an entire year.

EDIT: Trillions, not billions...I am stupid lol

Missed by three orders of magnitude, dude.

That's a pretty decent deal for Utah to get Joe Johnson. 2 years at that salary is not bad.

All this D Wade talk is stupid. There is zero chance he is leaving the Heat. He just wants one/both of the following: media attention, or to scare Riley/Heat into paying him a little more.

ESPN reporting that Durant had a great meeting with the Clips and was "blown away"? Yeah right. There is 0 percent chance he goes to that team. They could arrange a Blake / Durant trade that would probably make Oklahomans happier than outright losing KD, but I don't see why KD would want to go to a team that is literally worse at every position than his current team. It's all smoke.

I actually thought of JJ as a stop gap option for us. Oh well

$1.7 Billion? So basically what this site collectively spends on booze each non-playoff season...

Knight's contract is a bargain now. Markieff is outstanding value. Marcus is insane value. Bledsoe would be too if it wasn't for the meniscus. To each his own, the GM did well in those negotiations. IT3's contract is out of this world as well.

I would be fine with a guard rotation of:

PG - Bledsoe / Price / Ulis
SG - Booker / Goodwin
I would be fine too, but you need to give me something decent for Knight. Maybe Knight is not an option anymore for teams that lacked a starting PG, but he still could be used by a win now team in a Jason Terry role. I am not dumping him just because, at least at this point. We don't own Bogs anymore and the draft has not delivered a SG.

Turner ok, Parsons ugly, Fournier good to great.
Turner's deal is awful.
Look around. 17M are not what they used to be. I know the deal looks a little larger than it should, and he is not what you wan't from a #2 overall. But the guy is a fundamentally sound jack of all trades guard who can lead a second unit and is actually clutch. His stint in Indiana sucked but he redeemed himself in Boston. We'll see how he does in a new situation (I think he should have remained in Boston if there was a fair offer), but Portland doesn't have a handler after Dame and CJ.

Mike Conley, 5 years, $153 million. $30 million per season. Highest overall salary in history and first $30 million per season deal.
Guys, those figures were already discussed months in advance. PIck up your collective yaws off the floor.

Can't understand Joe Johnson going to Utah. They're not winning a title any time soon and there's too many better teams in the west. To me that shows he's about the money and not a title.

Portland picking up Evan Turner ? What for ? They need help in the frontcourt, not backcourt. They should've gone after Jeff Green, Al Jefferson, or try to trade for Millsap IMO.

I doubt any other team was giving him 24M for two years while also offering starter playing time and touches.

V9MM, at least you copped to it with grace. Cap still hasn't said anything about being fooled by the fake Woj. :D

Didn't see it posted yet, but ATL gave Bazemore 4/70. This is probably the most shocking to me even though it has been rumored for a while. Nice little player that is now making $17M a year (still would have been $13M/yr under the old cap.)
