Suns Media Day 2016

Post by Superbone »

Media day is just around the corner, folks. It is this Monday, the 26th of September and then they get on a bus and head to Flagstaff for training camp.
Storylines for the Phoenix Suns heading into Media Day

Media Day marks the true beginning of the NBA season.

The Phoenix Suns will have theirs on Monday and will then take a bus to Flagstaff for training camp just a few hours later.

Despite winning only 23 games last year, the Suns are one the most intriguing teams in the NBA in terms of rotation decisions and possible moves going forward. Here are three storylines to watch out for Monday that could have a major impact on what the Suns do for the future.

Brandon Knight’s starting role

The largest discussion point amongst those around the Suns from the second half of last season to opening night this season is Knight’s role on the team and whether or not it will be in the starting lineup.

Devin Booker’s fantastic rookie season and the fact that many believe he was the Phoenix’s best player last season has led many to believe he must be starting alongside Eric Bledsoe on Oct. 26 against the Sacramento Kings.

CBS Sports’ Matt Moore drew the same conclusion...

There's an interesting bit at the end of this article about who has been a good interview over the years.
On the dance between players and media, as the 2016-17 NBA Media Days approach
The players need the media. The media need the players. So why is there so much angst over media scrums?
By Dave King @DaveKingNBA Sep 24, 2016, 7:47a

As the final weekend before Phoenix Suns Media Day approaches to kick off another season, NBA players and head coaches are reluctantly forced to dust off their interview game for another grueling 6-7 months of answering the same questions over and over again.

Players have this final weekend out of the spotlight, where they can go to the gym, work out, play a little ball and go home without having to explain to anyone why they had a good shooting day or a bad shooting day.

Media Day on Monday ends all that. After Media Day, there’s post-practice or post-game interview sessions on 90% of the days between September 26 and the mid-April (or later, if you’re any good) exit interviews.

The players’ gloriously quiet summer is over.

5 key topics to open Phoenix Suns training camp
Paul Coro, azcentral sports 1:23 p.m. MST September 25, 2016

The Suns have spent 5 ½ months recovering, retooling and revamping for a reboot from a 23-59 season.

The clean slate officially starts Monday with Earl Watson taking the Suns to Flagstaff for his first training camp as head coach. Key players are back in the fold. Familiar faces are being reintroduced. Fresh faces are joining a youthful look.

To the Suns, it merely is switching from fourth gear to fifth gear. The Suns players, but for the injured P.J. Tucker (back surgery) and Leandro Barbosa (post-Olympic rest), have been working out together four days a week this month. The Suns used San Diego and Las Vegas player trips, spinning and yoga classes in Phoenix and voluntary workouts and pickup games at Talking Stick Resort Arena to build a bond and the “family” feeling Watson seeks.

Las Vegas sports books and media prognosticators do not expect much from the Suns this season but the players believe healthy stars, new coaches and roster tweaks will make them playoff material again. Here is a starting five of key issues to watch this preseason:

Exactly. I can't wait until that slogan is gone. I hate it more than I hated our lack of purple.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

Ann Meyers Drysdale is interviewing Chriss, and he drops this gem "Yoga is hard. Sometimes I get tired and just lie down to rest." She looks at him blankly for a second before changing the subject.

I am hoping that loss of weight makes him less likely to give up on a play after he doesn't get a call. And helps him pass to his teammates in their pocket without looking right at them first. And keep him on the court for more than half the games. If it does that, I think he could be a solid piece on a very good team.

It could actually help his knees and ankles stay healthy over the course of the season.

Espo or Chriss?

I think Chriss is just kind of innocent. He says stuff he shouldn't say because he's too open with the media, but that's not a character flaw. I shouldn't laugh at the honesty, but man, it was funny to me.

I mostly meant that they went with the same silly questions that are almost impossible to ask without sounding corny. This time they had Ann Drysdale reading them off.
