Thanks for the great threads and links as always, carey.

Note that several of the links discuss politics and the election. If people want to get into a deeper discussion about those aspects, let's please take it to the Politics area rather than any such arguments going here in the NBA section.

I just heard on The Starters that OKC was in serious trade discussions to try to acquire Rudy Gay. What do you guys think of that? I think he'd be a terrible partner for Westbrook given how much Russell loves to hog the ball and chuck up shots. They need to Iverson it up and surround Westy with a bunch of dead-eye three-point shooters who he can pass it to on the rare occasions when he doesn't choose to shoot the ball himself. 3+D all up and down the roster.

Agree. I'm not sure Gay is a good fit there.
Well, so much for hopes and dreams ...

I get OKC trying to emulate the AI 76rs given the circumstances, but one man can't do it all alone and the Thunder are no strangers to a SF/PF with a taste for scoring. Another shot maker gives OKC the ability to bring Dipo off the bench as well.

I am really hoping the Thunder take Tucker for a 1st rounder.

I'd be surprised if McD managed to extract that much value. The 3pt shot is a big problem.

If he didn't have a busted back and were playing at his highest level, yeah, he'd probably fetch a first-rounder. Right now, maybe a 2nd-rounder plus some middling younger player who isn't any good.

I admit, with his recent play, Tucker probably won't net a first round pick. But I'm holding on to hope, anyway. :) I do think he is a better player than most guys taken 25 and later, and there's a possibility that OKC would rather have a vet than a flawed prospect who might not turn into a player.

I do agree that Tucker has value, especially to a veteran / contending team. I would picture him netting more in return if we wait until the trade deadline, because teams will be more desperate and because he will be healthier and probably playing better by then.

It's staggering how much bad money Portland is stuck with. They have $35 million dollars a year invested in Evan Turner and Allen Crabbe, and neither are averaging double figures. Evan Turner is shooting 35% from the field. Incredible.

It is amazing, with all the analytics, scouting, and resources these general managers have and still make decisions the average NBA couch potato fan can see are colossally ridiculous.

Worst contract signed this offseason that gets no pub: Miles Plumlee - 4 years/$50M.

That blew me away. I knew then that in order to keep Len we'd have to shell out greater than $12M/yr.

Toronto got jobbed tonight in Sacramento. They hit an amazing game tying 3 at the end of regulation but the refs said it didn't count because the clock started late after Cousins tipped the inbounds pass. It was IN Sacramento. It was their mistake. How can they just waive off the basket?! The clock still started before the Toronto player touched it. You could clearly hear Raptors coach Casey yell, "This is bullshit!" to the refs. And it was.

You know that in a day or two the NBA will release an announcement saying, "We agree that it was a bad call. Our bad!" And then do nothing about it. Thanks, NBA!

I don't understand the complaint. The clock didn't start when it was supposed to so the shot shouldn't have counted.

The complaint, at least as I have heard it on sports radio, is that the clock starting late deluded Ross into thinking he had more time left than he did, and affected the way the last shot played out.

I think the refs got it right, but I do understand the other point of view.

You seriously don't understand it? So, it's OK for the home team's time keepers to deceive the opponent? What choice does a player have other than to trust the clocks on the court? His bad for not keeping an internal clock for when it should have started and shooting in time?
