James Young makes no sense for us at 14. Besides McD having a Hard on for kentucky players I don't see it. Have we even worked him out? Warren at 18 I can definitely see (I think we could take him at 14 actually) and Capela at 27 would be a cuo.

I think Sarver's learned from past farces concerning selling 1st rounders, trading 1st rounders for futures/scrubs + 2nd rounders, throwing 1st rounders into trades to jettison salary etc. - he made it clear before last season that he was going to step the hell out of the way of basketball works and, thus far, he's stuck to that. Believe you me, I was skeptical as hell at first, but we've not heard one peep from Sarver on the basketball side for a full year & that's a great indication that he's finally learned his lesson about meddling where he has no business meddling.....

I'm not sure why everyone is so against trading a 1st for a future 1st. It depends on who is available and the situation, but its basically the new england patriots model of always having future assets.

If we are sitting at 27 and say New York calls..and we wanted a capela or a Tavares and they are off the board then yea, I am perfectly fine on pulling the trigger with New York on a future 1st.

I wont be surprised, a little disappointed maybe, but not surprised. We need all the talent we can get, we're not a deep team nor are we a a team thats right on the cusp of stardom. You get talent when you can get it.

Just for the record I am not one of those. My first options are trading up and/or draft and stash, but I realize that depending on the actual outcome of the first 26 picks, trading for a future one wouldn't be the waste some seem to believe. And I am confident that the pick won't be sold.

I'm ok with trading pick 27 for a future first rounder as long as it's guaranteed to stay a first rounder and not convert to a 2nd rounder after a certain number of years. You're rolling the rice that the team you trade with has a worse than expected year and you end up with a higher pick. It's not a bad gamble IMO.

I'm also ok with a draft and stash if the appropriate player is there. I would be very disappointed if the pick was essentially sold off or a trade throw in.

That's fine. Just don't trade the 27th because you don't want 3 rookies on the team though - if your guy isn't there at 27 and you find a suitor I have no problem with McD trading out either, however, it seems like he's telling us they are gonna trade out regardless.

That screams a lot of guys in this draft. There's a bunch of talent outside the big 3 but almost all of it is a ways away from contributing to an NBA team.

Just wondering is there any benefit at all to saying we wont draft 3 guys publicly? If we intended to trade some of them, wouldnt it be better to talk about what a deep draft it is to raise their perceived value. I know I'm knit picking

Ehh. On the one hand you're announcing to the league that you're open for business, which could conceivably bring in multiple offers. On the other hand you're showing your cards early which could hurt those offers.

Ultimately, it probably makes no difference.
