Devin Booker scores 70 points in a regulation game making NBA history
Re: Devin Booker scores 70 points in a regulation game making NBA history
Jennings is an undersized PG who is an ball hog.
Booker is a prototypical sized SG who plays the position to its truest form.
I doubt Booker's career will end up the same way as Jennings.
This is gonna sound crazy but Booker's floor is Klay Thompson. I don't even know what the hell his ceiling is.

Yes. I don't think Booker is Jennings but we underestimate just how difficult scoring 70 in the NBA is. Would it have come in a game where the opposing team was not cruising by 20 most of the game? They never put Bradley on him once. Why? They switched IT on him late, why? I don't know. I do know that this will likely never ever happen again in a Suns uniform. And do you know what, that's o.k.! It doesn't mean Booker will have a career like Jennings. It meant he had a career night on a random Friday in March when the Suns were in 3rd to last place in the league and it brought momentary joy to a suffering fan base.Cap wrote:I'd hate to think he's peaked before he can even buy a beer.Wally_West wrote:The question now is will Devin Booker ever get more than 70?
Brandon Jennings had a 55-point game as a 20-year-old rookie. It's been downhill for him since.
So thanks, Devin.

I totally agree. I like Crowder and IT, but their responses today were very disappointing. Also what's the deal with that stupid double technical? I feel like people really pick on Jones Jr. But I digress. Awesome accomplishment, and tremendous to see the fans cheering for the kid. Wish the Celtics players could understand that this is an entertainment business and what Booker did was good for the game, and stop eating sour grapes. Never seen so many guys who win a game and are still so sour.UglyTruth wrote:This is amazing. I loved seeing the Garden actually rooting for Booker to do well.
Too bad the celtics players aren't as classy as their fans.
Re: Devin Booker scores 70 points in a regulation game making NBA history
Because Bradley was out sick. Sure they were winning by a lot, but they had Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart on Booker for most of the game, and Booker hit multiple post up shots and mid range ISOs against Smart and I don't think he's the type to let up because they are up. I don't think the Celtics intentionally switched IT onto Booker, unless the Suns made it happen in transition or through the PnR. Despite the ugly loss, I don't think anyone can or should take away what Booker did. He was literally the only guy today who brought his game, and was maybe the only guy whose game the opponent had been familiar enough with (scouted). Yet he put these numbers up against arguably the Celtics' strongest defensive position. Kudos.carey wrote:Yes. He sure did. And he had to create many of those baskets for himself. That YouTube video was awesome to watch. He has gotten so good at absorbing contact and still finishing. He has bulked up a bit this year and he has a big strong frame for taking contact.
It's easy to dismiss an accomplishment like this as being meaningless because it came in a loss. But only one team wins the title every year, and if the only thing we celebrate in basketball is championships, then the Suns have literally accomplished nothing as a franchise. I don't want to look at it that way. What Booker did was still an amazing feat. And he did it against one of the better defensive teams in the NBA, not against some scrub team like Brooklyn.
LMAO @ that photo of him holding the piece of paper saying "70." That was great.

"The question now is will Devin Booker ever get more than 70?"
I think the real question is will he continue develop as a multi-dimensional player.
Will he continue to work on stamina/fitness? How about defense? Overall decision-making?
For example, when his long-range shot isn't falling, will he work on defense, distribution and the short-game?
That's what Larry Bird did when his shot wasn't falling.
I hope he does. He has great potential, but he's far from being a finished product.
Right now, on this team, this franchise, he's a one-eyed man in a kingdom of the blind.

On the 2nd game of a b2b in his second year. Lots of hate about this across the internet but no matter how it went down it is an amazing feat.
His ability to create his own offense is something special.
If he keeps working hard he will make us a contender in a few years.

On 2/25/77 Pete Maravich scored 68 points in Madison Square Garden against the Knicks, making 26 of 43 FG and 16 of 19 FT as the Jazz beat the Knicks 124-107. New Orleans was 26-33 at the time and out of playoff contention in the Eastern Conference. There were some minor differences of course, the Jazz won, they weren't as bad as the Suns and it wasn't as late in the season, but they were fairly similar situations in that a guard on a bad team went into a basketball mecca and had a huge scoring explosion.
On 4/9/78 David Thompson had his 73-point in a 139-137 loss to Detroit on the final day of the season as he battled George Gervin to win the scoring title. In an afternoon game Thompson made 28 of 38 FG and 17 of 20 FT (he had 53 points at halftime), but lost the scoring title to Gervin when he countered with a 63-point game of his own in a 153-132 loss to the Jazz, making 23 of 49 FG and 17 of 20 FT. Thompson had set an NBA record with 32 points in the first quarter of his game, but Gervin broke that record with 33 in the second quarter of his game (also finishing with 53 first half points) before ending the game (and season) averaging 27.22 points a game, edging Thompson, who finished at 27.15.

Next time he has a 22-81 slump, remember, it means a 70-point performance is on the way.

That is how it works, for sure. Also a slot machine that hasn't paid out in a while will definitely pay out soon.
Re: Devin Booker scores 70 points in a regulation game making NBA history
That also means we're going to win the draft lottery, because we're definitely due.

On another note, Maravich figured in another somewhat bizarre game involving the Suns ...
"... in 1977 the New Orleans Jazz were in town to visit the Suns at Veterans Memorial Coliseum and five of them were in a cab that ran a red light and crashed into a car making a left turn. All five were taken to the hospital. While not seriously hurt, they could not play that night.
So the Jazz took the court with only seven players, and one of them, Mo Howard, wasn’t healthy either, although he was not involved in the wreck. He played just four minutes.
What the Jazz did have was this fellow named “Pistol” Pete Maravich. All he did that night was score 51 of his team’s 104 points making 21 of 34 shots (there were no 3-point field goals in the NBA then) and 9 of 10 free throws. The short-handed Jazz won the game ..."

Wow. I just checked in after a little while away to see this. Brilliant performance from Booker, absolutely brilliant. His continued growth is a the brightest of bright spots in the overall fairly miserable last few years for the Suns.

It says a lot about a player that his teammates are so engaged in his success. Probably says something good about Watson, too.
