Around the League: Preseason 2017

Their hands were kind of tied I guess, but I'll say that I'm glad the Suns aren't the team paying it.

I'm glad we don't have to take that risk, but PHI will be more than happy to pay it if he does stay healthy.carey wrote:Their hands were kind of tied I guess, but I'll say that I'm glad the Suns aren't the team paying it.

Embiid has the potential to be a really impactful player in the league. If he gets another injury, it will be such a heartbreak, though. Betting on big men with leg problems is scary business.

Re: Around the League: Preseason 2017
For anyone who complains about how grueling the NBA schedule is nowadays, in doing some research on the 1949-50 Denver Nuggets (who played one season in the NBA, starting the season 0-15 and finishing 11-51) I found this scheduling stretch -
16Nov49 - Lost to Washington Capitols in Washington, DC - 99-90
17Nov49 - Lost to Baltimore Bullets in Baltimore, MD - 86-71
18Nov49 - Lost to New York Knicks in Philadelphia, PA - 85-78
19Nov49 - Lost to Rochester Royals in Rochester, NY - 96-64
20Nov49 - Los to Syracuse Nationals in Syracuse, NY - 102-76
21Nov49 - Lost to Syracuse Nationals in Oneida, NY - 77-67
Six games in six nights in six different cities. Now granted, Washington isn't that far from Baltimore and the last three are all in New York, but they traveled mostly by train I would assume, and they probably stayed at a lot of second-rate hotels and ate at a lot of greasy-spoon restaurants.
And that six-game preseason that they just shortened because it was to long? In the 1950s teams would play 20 to 25 preseason games, and would occasionally schedule exhibition games during their off days during the season. (and don't even get me started on how these guys didn't have great medical care or diets, and nobody had a trainer that went on the road - if they had one at all.)

Preseason Overreactions
Justin Holiday and Markkanen just torched the Cavs in Bron first game action. The Cavs starters played decent minutes too

I totally didn't believe in Markkanen, but I'd love to see him thrive in the NBA. Will be rooting to see him succeed and figure it out. Go Cats!
Re: Around the League: Preseason 2017
I got markkanen on my fantasy team so I'm all for him having a good year.
Re: Around the League: Preseason 2017
I'm not a UA fan, but I thought Markkanen was what I hoped Bender would be. I know many think Bender will be much more and I hope so, but not so sure.

Re: Around the League: Preseason 2017
Markkanen had a terrific Eurobasket with his shooting, 19,5ppg while flirting with a monster 50-40-90 at 56% FG, 48% 3pt on pretty relevant volume. He has my curiosity for this season.Split T wrote:I got markkanen on my fantasy team so I'm all for him having a good year.

I mean, the Cavs are notoriously under-motivated and poorly coached. That loss is an indication of the effort the Cavs will be putting in this season.bajanguy008 wrote:Preseason Overreactions![]()

The difference is, we can't afford to be under-motivated and poorly coached.

Re: Around the League: Preseason 2017
Some were surprised to hear Cavs announce Wade as starter as most expected him to be a stabilizing influence on the 2nd unit and frankly to be not playing much minutes. Anyways this story now drop this morning, it is not by Mcmenamin or Windhorst but there are lots of quotes so I figure it is legit

Oh agreed, hope you didn't think I meant that we're in that group of teams that can say Preseason play doesn't matter much.O_Gardino wrote:I mean, the Cavs are notoriously under-motivated and poorly coached. The first step is admitting you have a problem.O_Gardino wrote:bajanguy008 wrote:Oh agreed, hope you didn't think I meant that we're in that group of teams that can say Preseason play doesn't matter much.O_Gardino wrote:I mean, the Cavs are notoriously under-motivated and poorly coached. Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

That JR Smith interview is interesting. But I guess he'll get his starting role back when D.Wade has his inevitable injury after 30 games.
Re: Around the League: Preseason 2017
Wolves re-sign Wiggins to 5-year, $148m extension. Yowza. I like Wiggins but I dunno about that deal.

That's Donovan Mitchell money, yo.
Seriously, I'd trade anyone on this roster not named Josh Jackson for that kid.
