Thing is, Ayton never played basketball at a young age and fell in love with it. He played other sports and had other interests, grew and was introduced to basketball and brought to the states. He didn't start playing at 8 years old, love the game and then hit a growth spurt in his teens. I think he's a naturally gifted athlete and is obviously very good at basketball, but that doesn't mean basketball is in his blood.

I totally disagree. Some people love the game. Some are in it mostly for the money. Ayton is the latter.

This is probably common for big guys, isn’t it. They get recruted because they are tall, not because they want to play Basketball.

Yep. Haven't we all seen those 5th and 6th grade basketball games where the kid that is a foot taller than everyone else is playing but has no idea what is going on? His dad or friends or whatever convinced him to play, but he is just going through the motions...

Cam Johnson has been low-key really struggling for the past few weeks. He hits the occasional corner 3, but his other shots are just not falling.
I think MIkal is like 4 out of his last 28 threes too.
Mikal's shot has been off, too. You're right. The difference is that I feel like Mikal finds ways to still mostly contribute even if his shooting is off. He cuts to the basket, he gets put-backs, he plays dogged defense. Cam tries to drive to the basket a little, but he's not quite as athletic. He's a solid defender, but not quite the stalwart that Bridges is. Cam is not nearly as effective a player on a poor shooting night.
Cam is shooting .388/.333 as a starter.
He was 471/384 as a reserve.

IMO we really miss Saric and Payne. Those guys got the bench moving and in a good rhythm that carried over into the rest of the game. When CP3 and Ayton are on the court, everybody else just stands around.

Great point about height being a factor in "making" him play basketball. I'm now reminded that he loved soccer and was pulled out to play basketball because of his height. I had forgotten about that.

Show me his quote where he says he doesn’t love the game and is in it only for the money. I saw the quote where he says Paul could help him get to the next tier and become a max contract. I would like to get to that level too and I love basketball.

Do you remember the quote on draft night where he said his goal for the NBA was getting to his 2nd contract?

I don’t believe that says anything either. If he doesn’t get to his second contract that means he completely failed as a #1 pick or even a professional basketball player. I think he was seeing that as a barometer of how well he will/should do in the league, not just how much money can he make. Even of you love basketball more than life itself, if you are a professional basketball player you are going to want to be paid what other players of your caliber are being paid.

People like playing 'connect the dots' even when a lot of the dots are non-existent.

And some people don't see them when they're all there.

With the benefit of lots of hindsight, I do wonder how Jerry feels about selling the team. Or if he's ever made any comments regarding selling
