We can’t have more than 15% of the cap as dead money…so we can’t stretch his full contract…he needs to give back some money to make it legal

Another reason why I think this is the most like scenario.

Say what you want about James Jones, but dude kept a tight ship. You know all these leaks are from that fat nepo baby Josh Bartelstein. Dude looking like a human Cinnabon. Fuckin fatass.

This is in response to him saying 0% chance Beal is on the team.

And another:

Seems very certain we are buying him out. Question is whether we stretch the deal. I’d just eat it for 2 years. We should be doing a retool/rebuild anyways.

Just doesn't make any sense to keep Book if we're going to be rebuilding, especially since he'll bring the most assets.

Well I don’t think they plan to rebuild at all. They are absolutely going to try and find a way to add another star player to Booker.

OK, I laughed but I feel guilty. Come on, man. Fat shaming? And this is coming from a guy that is down 75 pounds and now at optimal weight so I know there are no excuses, but still!

If you listen to the man, that is the plan. (I'm a poet and don't even know it.)

Hell yeah! Good for you ‘Bone! Fat shaming is not okay, but Josh Fartelstein is helping to run my favorite team into the ground so Fartelstein is fair game imo. The only franchise that nepo baby should be running is a Popeyes, over here looking like the albino Grimace.

So basically if he refuses to give back any money we can’t do it, because we already stretched Nassir Little.

And waiving him without stretching him would be totally illegal because Beal’s salary alone would be 35% of the cap as dead money. (Unless he agrees to reduce his $110M to around $40M!)

In other words, we are gonna be screwed for 5 years instead of 2 years. Unless we can count on Beal refusing to give up about $14M.

I think there must be a different rule if you don’t stretch the contract…I’ll look into it

I saw something about a new delayed stretch provision where we'd pay Beal $40mil this year and 20 for the next 3? Not sure how accurate that is.

Ya I saw that too…I think basically it’s a buyout but you don’t stretch the contract until after the cutoff date, so you are taking the full brunt of the 1st year salary, but stretching the 2nd year.

I’m not sure if the numbers were right, but the idea is Beal gives back 20 million..that is spread evenly over his remaining 2 years, so his salaries are now roughly 43 and 47. You pay him 43 next year and then stretch the 47 over 3 years(15.67 per year).

So as I understand it, we could waive someone and convert CG to a standard contract and have him under contract for next season but haven't done that/won't do that and he'll be a RFA instead? Isn't this a no-brainer?

For most franchises.

I mean we have time to do it still…I’m sure we will. No reason to do it before the last day of the season.

Hmm
I don’t think you can work it out money wise with Mikal…or can you?

4 team trade. Everyone gets better.

Bulls: OG Anunoby, Goga Bitazde via TPE, Miles McBride, 29th pick via suns

Magic: Vucevic, Grayson Allen. 2nd from Suns.

Knicks: KD, Royce, Ayo Donsumu, Jalen Smith

Suns: Mikal Bridges, Mitchell Robinson, Tyler Kolek, KCP, Tristan Da Silva, Caleb Huston, Corey Joseph, 16th pick and 24th pick from Magic. Knick Pick swaps

Knick: Brunson-Hart-Royce- KD- Kat with Ayo and Smith off the bench

Suns: Book- Mikal- Dunn- Tristan Da Silva- Mitchell Robinson
Colin-Kolek-KCP-Oso, 16th pick, 24th pick

Trade Nick Richards to lakers 5 million TPE for couple 2nds

That is a bat shit trade. I like it. Honestly I would take Mikal back, even though that would be an admission of the failure of the KD trade and even though that roster you listed isn't a contender. I just want to root for guys I like and watch guys who are fun to watch.

I made a simpler version of the trade lol. Maybe more realistic?

Bulls: OG, Mitchell Robinson via TPE. Multiple 2nd picks from Magic

Magic: Vucevic, Grayson Allen

Knicks: KD, Royce, Lonzo

Suns: Mikal, Goga, KCP, Da Silva, Gary Harris, 16th pick, Knick Pick swaps.

You’re right, it only applies to stretching:
A team is not permitted to stretch the team salary charge if in any future season the team salary charges for all the team's waived players (and other former players) would add up to more than 15% of the salary cap for the season in which the player is waived.

http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm
So the best thing to do so it doesn’t impact us long-term would be to just waive outright and it only affects us for two years instead of four or five.

But of course Ishbia only cares about the short-term so he’ll stretch it.
