I’ve never believed he’d block a trade. He’s too much of a people pleaser.

I'm glad you're not the GM.

And you're forgetting about Ayton's no-trade clause...why would he want to go to another team to play behind Kyrie and Luka?
His no trade clause is only for 1 year. He won’t have it this summer.
1 year = July 14. The draft is June 22.
Ah…I wasn’t suggesting trading him on draft night. Just including whoever they pick.
Ah, got it. Well it’s (hopefully) all going to be a moot point after the playoffs anyway—I can’t see either Jones or Ishbia trading a key piece of a championship team, or even a Finals team.
I hope so. I think he’s the key piece to deciding whether we win.

Then why don’t we curtail all the Ayton trade talks until after the playoffs. Let’s see how he does when it matters and go from there. This has been going on for 2 years and it’s tiresome.

Could you also ask Ayton to curtail the lackluster play? That would eliminate the trade talk.

I mean I get it..but it’s hard for me to stop thinking about how to improve the team. This is also the offseason thread haha. I’ll try to tone it back and I’ll keep it out of any of the playoff news threads. But I won’t guarantee I won’t say anything in the heat of a game or in an offseason thread.

When the Suns aren't playing a game, what else is there to talk about besides ways to improve the roster?

We're all just armchair GMing and no one is being rude or petty. Seems pretty lame to me to ignore the elephant in the room because it's... the elephant?

I don't think trading Ayton is the right move right now (i.e. in the off season), but if it happened, I would want more than Luka's trash teammates that can't even make the play-in. Ayton may not have the impact expected of his "max" contract, but he does have impact.

Maybe we owe PJ more than we know for Devin Booker

Figured there would be a "heavy" fine to send a message. Kidd's postgame quotes sealed the deal there.

Booting a lottery pick for $750k is a pretty good deal. Embarrassingly small penalty for blatant shameless tanking.

The NBA should have also made them refund all the ticket sales from that night.

The league should have told them for the purposes of the lottery the game would count as a win for the Mavericks.

Green, Kleber, and THJ are all nice rotation players. I feel we will struggle to find rotation players with our salary restraints. We’ll see what Ayton gives us this postseason, but right now we’re paying him too much for what we’re getting. He needs to be a bigger part of the offense to warrant his pay and that just doesn’t seem likely with Booker and KD here.

There’s also the 10th pick which would be nice. Not sure we’re gonna get much for Ayton if we trade him.
The only hesitation I have with dealing with Dallas is that they need Ayton, but they don't really have anything we need; they have useful pieces for us, but nothing that I would classify as a need-filler.

But I agree with Split: a lotto pick and solid depth pieces is not a bad package for Ayton at all. A Dallas deal wouldn't be my first choice, but it could work for me. The lotto pick and Josh Green would be non-negotiable items for me, but after that, the Suns might have to take on Bertans and/or McGee.
Ya, I don’t love the Dallas deal either…but it is the formula I’m intrigued by. 2-3 wings/shooters and a pick or decent prospect would do. I’d also listen to a lesser center plus wing player type deal. Mostly we just need to get multiple pieces for him if we move him.
That Dallas trade idea is awful. Just awful.

I agree... they should have also lost their seeding and been dropped because of it.

Instead... lets set a precedence so teams in the future will just budget the 750k into their franchises for this. Dumb.

You guys are funny.

Harshly penalize the Mavs for being upfront, but do nothing to the Blazers, Spurs, Hornets, etc. who'd been blatantly tanking for weeks prior.

Nope... If it can be proven, punish them too! I'm just more informed on the mavericks one.

It'll be interesting but my guess is a team that struggles to sign free agents, or the Lakers.
