Is there a world where we don’t suck for the rest of the season and even worse for the next ten? Worrying about Nurk feels kinda pointless now.
Worrying about the next 10 is even more pointless. I don't think Ishbia allows this team to be even worse. Especially not for 10 years!
That’s like saying someone with zero assets and lots of debt won’t allow himself to be poor. Not much he can do after spending himself into that kind of hole.
We shall see. Bookmark these posts and we will revisit.
And to answer your comment. There are a lot of things that person can do. He can get a better job, change his ways from spender to saver, pay down the debt until paid off, and then start saving everything he was previously putting into debt and put it into an S&P index fund. It's possible to make a turnaround both in basketball and in life.
To your point, it may take some time.
OK, a person with zero assets, lots of debt, no self control, and no marketable skills.
I seriously don’t understand how his “fuck the future” attitude is widely seen as “he won’t allow us to get bad.”
This guy who’s supposed to change his ways from slender to saver “won’t allow” himself to live a frugal lifestyle. Spending like crazy doesn’t show determination and ability, it just shows a lack of foresight.
Failing to plan is planning to fail. He may not “allow” failure, but he’s sure planning to fail.

I think we also forget that we will only owe 2 picks after this year.
IINM, it’s three picks and three swaps over the next six years. The next time we have our own pick is ‘31.
We still have 1st round picks in 26, 28, and 30. We just drafted Dunn not having our own pick in 2024. Not having our own picks is really only bad if we are trying to bottom out.

To make a course correction, the guy who “won’t allow the team to be bad (in the short term)” is going to have to understand that sometimes you have make short term sacrifices for long term gain, even if that means “allowing” us to lose on that particular day. So far he has shown no awareness that there’s another season after this one, and more after that.

Folks defending Sarver's track record as an owner. Really?
We're screwed if we don't get any assets back to rebuild by trading Durant or even Booker. There is no other realistic way out.

He’s been here less than 2 years…he’s really only made 1 long term killing move…and that was to get Kevin Durant…I just don’t see this as negatively as you do

We were always a middle lottery team at worst. You're asking us to bottom out for draft picks. We always had big name talent on our team and he retooled every year. We' didn't operate like OKC and we won't now. Jerry wasn't interested in a 5 year rebuild and Ishbia won't be either.

I don't really buy this argument that "we'll never be truly bad because Ishbia is willing to spend lots of money." There have been plenty of teams that were spendy but still horrible. We're one KD injury, or KD trade demand, or KD refusal to sign extension, from being such a team. We could certainly end up in the worst of all worlds, where we are up in the 1st or 2nd apron but still well out of the playoffs. All the money in the world won't magically make your team successful if you spend it unwisely and squander all your future assets.

Sure, it’s possible. I’m not sure anyone is saying we will never be truly bad…I think it’s more that we aren’t going to intentionally be bad. I do think there’s a good chance they can stay at least somewhat good. Booker is still here. They can trade KD if he demands out…they’ll have wiggle room salary wise if he walks.

I’m not asking us to bottom out. I’m asking us not to spend a decade worth of assets on a two-year team, especially one so mediocre.
(BTW, compile a list of Colangelo trades where he sent out draft picks and see how well they worked out. Spoiler: not good.)

Still the same stuff as last year. A veteran team like this shouldn't be having conversations around effort and playing hard. It starts with your best players, but we already know what we have with those guys. And KD holding anyone on the team accountable is laughable.

Yeah, he poo pooed his turnovers last time (8!) but he wants to hold others accountable?
