I'll defer to your expertise. It will be a good drama to watch unfold, anyway.

Good players locked up on multiple years return more money. KD and Jimmy are still top 10-15 players when they play. Now if that goes south, it’s a different discussion. But for example, Jimmy has lower trade value right now because he can walk in the summer.
Re: Suns News: Week 12 (1/6-1/12/25)
I don’t see it. Their old… past their prime and only declining.
Re: Suns News: Week 12 (1/6-1/12/25)
Better to get rid of a player a year too early than a year too late.
Re: Suns News: Week 12 (1/6-1/12/25)
That was good enough to convince the Suns to sell the farm to get him.
I expect he will continue with that level of production for at least a couple more years and maybe up to age 39-40. He works hard and his game is skill-based, which tends to age better than athletic-based. The problem is there are now 2 examples of trying to make a super team with Kevin Durant that didn't work. Is someone dumb enough to try a 3rd attempt? Is the word out that KD doesn't elevate a team? I'd guess there is someone that will give out assets for him, though probably not the haul that the Nets got.

Suns post-practice videos. Bud and Bartelstein talking, Royce dunking, Allen and Dunn talking to the media. Royce is due to be reevaluated tomorrow.
Spoiler: show/hide

Like shell said….
Split… I like your optimism on stuff but realistically think KD is a diminishing return.

Yes, we certainly won’t get the same returnCarno wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2025 11:38 amThat was good enough to convince the Suns to sell the farm to get him.

Re: Suns News: Week 12 (1/6-1/12/25)
The question though isn’t about what his value is right now or where it’s going. I’m not disputing that his value will drop…it will. The question is, what is his value right now on an expiring deal vs right now while under contract for 2 extra years.
If someone is trading for him, they don’t just want him for 1 year…They will want to sign him to an extension. The extension being signed already makes it easier and takes him bailing on them after 1 year off the table.
Re: Suns News: Week 12 (1/6-1/12/25)
I don't see a long list of teams offering huge amounts of assets for Jimmy Butler right now. In fact, the leading contender is trying to lowball and get him for an overpaid Brad Beal and not even a single 1st-round pick. Is that price really going to go way up when Jimmy is a year older and signed to a ginormous contract?
And for KD, even though he's on the last year of his contract he is still likely to fetch a good return. Teams don't mind that he isn't locked up for 5 more years.

Wiggins, Kuminga, Looney and Kyle Anderson for KD.

I'd give ya 4 picks but I don't know what the Ws would offer. They've been resistant to give up Kuminga so it might be tough. I'd rather have a pick or two than a player but we need to make the finances work. Either way, i think the Ws would be receptive to taking back KD because they seem pretty desperate for a boost and want to compete right now for Curry. I honestly don't even love the package of players and would rather make a deal with the Rockets. Even so, we add depth at the 3/4 and add a hustle big at the 5 with Looney to stay competitive now.
Re: Suns News: Week 12 (1/6-1/12/25)
4 picks which way?
Ish would already have traded all our picks through 2060 if he were allowed to. And we’d still be missing the playoffs.

Yes the market for Jimmy would be better right now if he had another year. We’ve already heard Milwaukee and Memphis looked into it…they were told not to trade for him, but they might’ve been willing to do it if they had another year locked up.Mori Chu wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2025 2:34 pmI don't see a long list of teams offering huge amounts of assets for Jimmy Butler right now. Look at what the Spurs got for Kawhi who wouldn’t sign an extension with Toronto…derozan, Poeltl, and 1 1st…that’s for an mvp level player. Players just have more value if they are under contract.

He hasn’t even traded all the picks he can trade
