Gambo says he doesn't expect Mike Malone or Taylor Jenkins to be considered. Sean Highkin who covers the Blazers said he'd heard Billups would be on our radar which may be why the Blazers gave him the extension yesterday.
I think they want someone who played the game, a younger guy who can actually relate, not a big white stiff.
22 of the last 25 championship coaches have been white guys. I don't know what difference skin color is going to make.
It's obviously not about skin color. I just want a guy who can relate to the players and tell it like it is and not be afraid to hurt their feelings and keep them accountable. I guess a better question is how do these last 25 championship coaches match that criteria. Or, is this even the right criteria. What are their best qualities?

Would you trade our 2nd round pick for Willie Green?
I like Willie Green, but I am really really DONE with giving away picks left and right for short-term fixes. Find a good coach and hire him; no picks just to get yet another 1-year coach who we'll probably just fire after next season anyway.

A note about New Orleans and Willie Green. Sounds like they want to trade Zion but keep Green.

Someone should start a poll of possible coaching replacements

I wonder if Chris Paul retires and becomes Suns head coach lol

I kid, I kid.

Maybe Steve Nash? 👀

Willie Green
I think he stays, Suns just being used as leverage for a new deal like usual.
He already got an extension I believe

I don't think it's so funny. I'd take him as coach. I like the idea. I'd love to see him work the refs.

I saw an article suggesting several options. One was Sam Cassel? Just say NO!

He was definitely a coach on the floor so why not on the sidelines?

Plus, he's not going to back down from telling the players what he thinks and hold them accountable.

It seems very likely that the next coach is going to be a former player. The current ones that come to mind are: Sam Cassel, Jared Dudley and Chris Quinn. Any others? Trying to think of assistants that also previously been mentioned as head coach candidates in the past.

I'm not convinced it has to be a former player. Why are we thinking that? I might have to review the last 25 championship coaches Bobster referenced. I know Pop, Vogel, and Bud are on that list right off the top of my head. None of which were good players at the NBA level.

Johnnie Bryant is another guy to keep an eye on. I think i remember Gambo saying his name awhile back too. Could be wrong.

He was Donovan Mitchell favorite assistant in Utah, when to to Knicks with Thibs and now currently less assistant with the Cavs now.

Random Cavs appreciation thread

The Suns released the following statement:
Competing at the highest level remains our goal, and we failed to meet expectations this season. Our fans deserve better. Change is needed.

Yes we do!

Gambo been hinting at that on radio for a minute now, didn’t say it was requirement tho. Basically keep an eye out on young up and coming coaches, and added that being a recent former player could be a big positive.

Cool stat but that wasn't the point I was making. I'll say big black stiff next time to appease you.
Love, Hurts.

Thanks Bobster! I was working on my own little list in parallel but this is much better. Mind if I move it to the coaching search thread?

I think he would be a good coach. Send highly regarded as an assistant, despite his time as a Sun, he was a smart player. I would have him high on my list.
