As someone who's never really been good at understanding luxury tax rules and stipulations, I'll just assume it's all pretty bad punishment handcuffing our flexibility. Which I get. Otherwise it would be a wild west free for all with sky high salaries all over the league.

Sup Suns fam !!
I've been in the Shadows for Months but hope everyone is doing well

I'm one that's kool with the Beal move and still feel like although cap strapped that we might do better getting complimentary pieces than the mix n match we did post KD trade
Good to see you back, bajan. Where have you been? Hope all's well. And I agree that our season will hang on how well we can fill out our roster around our new Big 3.

See, I feel like this means we do have the tax-payer exception this offseason.

It includes not being able to use the TPMLE in both July 1st to start of 2024 offseason and in the day after the last day of the 2023-24 regular season

Are we call this offseason the 2024 offseason? I would think this would be the 2023 offseason.

Yes this is 2023, but it says July 1st to the 2024 offseason, so I’m reading that starting July 1st 2023

That's a weird way of labeling/wording it.

Ya I was confused for a bit but I think it’s because some of the rules change. Use of the TPMLE doesn’t, but the other two rules listed with it get more strict in the 2024 offseason

What do we think of Darius Bazley? I’d like to bring him back, we need some young, cheaper talent. He’s a big wing that I feel Vogel could also do some things with defensively. I’d try and give him a good number next year but add multiple team options on to it. Cost controlled asset that could be an expiring contract as well.

I'm kind of meh on him. I don't see much of a basketball player there, just a young athlete that plays basketball and can make plays off of some instincts but mostly his size and athleticism. Not a lot of fundamentals or feel, which comes from playing a lot of basketball over the years and having fundamentals drilled into you. It's why guys like Mikal and CamJ can come in and play right away. Guys like Bazley and Todd skip college and play in the GLeague which isn't anything like college in terms of level of play or the quality/amount of practice every day. It's glorified pickup IMO, so guys like them can stand out. Are they really making basketball plays and playing within the flow of the game in a team setting? Not really. Maybe he'll surprise with some extra work but I'm not holding my breath on either.

If Ishbia wants to leave the door open to take on more salary, he could sign him for $30M, non-guaranteed after year one.
This could help if a team wants to dump salary for an expiring contract, or if a player demands out. We could even package the expiring contract with first & second round picks (2031) next June.

Are we sure college is a higher level than the g-league? I’d think the other way around. Sure the top few college teams might be better, but I think the overall talent pool in the g league is better.
Do they not practice daily in the g-league? You seem to have a very different understanding of what the g league is. I don’t pay much attention to it, so I don’t really know and maybe my perception is wrong, I just didn’t see it as so low level.

Yeah my understanding of the G league is also that you play against tougher competition and there are no limits to practices unlike in college. On the other hand you are competing with grown men for touches and roles and are not necessarily getting special treatment and personalized training so maybe for those with maturity and mental toughness they can learn more while for younger kids it might hurt more to play in the G League than it helps.

The college game is much more organized and the coaching is better IMO. Just because the players in the Gleague are older, stronger and more athletic doesn't mean they're better in a team setting. I'm not trying to shit on the GLeague because some of those guys are trying to get better, but they're mostly trying to get noticed. And you can't make the leap from barely playing organized basketball to all of a sudden playing in the GLeague/NBA. That's why college is important. It's part of the growth process - fundamental drills everyday, fundamentals on the defensive side, experiencing every kind of game situation. Can't replicate that stuff in the GLeague. Most of those guys, even at 21-22, are what they are. If the GLeague had that much talent, there'd be a lot more guys getting drafted or picked up from there during the season.

How about this…we call up Washington and see if they are interested in Darius Bazley. We can sign and trade him(say 3 years 21 million) and attach Payne/Ish to him and take back Monte Morris and Delon Wright.
I’d front load the Bazley deal and give him 8 million in year 1, plus Payne’s 6.5 and Ish at 1.9. That puts you at 16.4 million and we could take back 110% + 100,000 which would be 18.1 million. Wright and Morris make 18 million combined. Washington would need to want to take a chance on Bazley though.
Probably makes more sense to just go after 1 or the other. Could do it by just packaging Bazley with Ish.

Something tells me we know we are getting couple of the high profiles vet role players on minimum deals come free agency.
Like Dillon Brooks…
We kind are the perfect situation for him. He’d be starting on contending team, Hed fill an immediate weakness. If he plays well and we gets to a finals or win the championship, Someone will definitely pay him a bag next summer.
