KEEP your eyes out for a certain former Suns guard with a very treadmill mentality. I'm not saying it will happen but it might happen or not, this stuff takes time yall but I'm telling you and not telling you at the same time
I’m trying to figure out what a treadmill mentality is and who that would apply to.

So dumb.

I do not understand the strategy at all. If they were going to do it, why wouldn't they do it right as free agency began so they could utilize the savings? What is the point now? Just keep him and try to salvage his value or keep him home until he decides that he's willing to be traded anywhere.
The main reason for doing it is getting out of the secopnd apron and saving a ton of penalty for being a repeater (I have heard it will save them $165 million). So basically keeping Beal next year will cost them about $220 million.

Plus they'll be able to use the mid-level exception and have more flexibility in trades.

Now, how stupid was that trade again??
I get that but they should've negotiated this a month ago so they could use the MLE
They may have broached the subject with Beal before, we don't know. I think their preference was to find a trade, but there obviously isn't a market for him with that contract.
Especially since we can't attach any draft assets

Oh, wow. A quick google and now I know who you’re talking about.

It’s a bit concerning that we are more than 3 days into free agency and the Suns have not signed a single NBA free agent.

I think it’s clear we never had any intention of using the exceptions we might gain access to if we waive and stretch Beal…the move was simply to save money. I read the waive and stretch(after a 14m buyout) saves Ishbia 230 million in salary and luxury tax next year.

One other thought…I believe July 6th is when teams can officially make the signings that have been announced…not sure if that’s midnight between July 5th and 6th or between July 6th and 7th, but that could be another deadline. Meaning we need to waive Beal 48hours before the moratorium period lifts so he can sign as soon as free agency actually opens. Perhaps he’s been looking for a landing spot, but those teams won’t keep waiting once the signings actually become official. Anyways just a thought…that would mean The we could either see the waive and stretch happen by midnight ET tonight or tomorrow(depending on when the moratorium officially lifts).

It ends at 9 am Sunday, Phoenix time.

That’s not too concerning to me…specifying an nba free agent seems to unnecessarily not account for Nigel Hayes Davis. I think that was a solid signing. But we also did a lot of roster turnover via trades and the draft. We only were ever going to use the vet min and those players are never in a rush because they are looking for more first. Trades were always going to be our way to overhaul the roster.

So tomorrow 9 am PT could be a deadline of sorts

I'd be surprised if both O'Neale and Allen were on our roster to start the season but maybe they will be? Or are they waiting to finalize something with Beal before anything else happens?

What I hate most about using the stretch provision is that it’s impossible to reverse the decision—that’s the scariest part. Even if you have a bad contract there is always a chance you can get rid of it (especially by adding picks to it if you want).

But once you stretch a player’s contract you are, in essence, voluntarily irreversibly reducing your team’s salary cap, for X amount of years.

Just tell Brad to stay home for the year if he's not going to waive his NTC to a team willing to trade for him.

Revisit it next offseason when he's an expiring

Players association won't let that happen.

Ok here’s my pretty ridiculous theory…
If we can get the Bradley Beal buyout down to 94 million(so he gives up just over 16m) then we swap Richards for a minimum contract, we could then aggregate Grayson and Royce together for Kyle Kuzma and finish under the 2nd apron without stretching Beal.

I’m not 100% certain Milwaukee can make that trade, but if my very rough math and the Spotrac numbers are right, I think it does work for them.

I don’t love Kuzma, but I love avoiding the stretch and I do think it makes some positional sense for both teams.

You could always send Richards to a team with a trade exception over $5 million and just take back draft picks.
