Al McCoy Sound Bites

Post by Indy »

So I decided to get a Basketball Arcade game for my basement, and then realized they cost about 5-6k for a single machine. I wanted two so you could play against someone real time. Anyway, instead of dropping 12k on this, I decided to make my own.

As a result, I was hoping to find some good quality audio clips of Al's famous catch phrases to build into the electronics. Anyone have any idea where I can find some?

{MODS--this might be better in the general section, but since it was Al, I put it here.]

You know what I hate about those things? The low ceiling that doesn't let you put any arc on your shot. If you're building your own, don't do that.

Oh, I was wondering why he needed two of them. The first thing I thought of was NBA Jam.

Can't help it. Those are designed to have a normal ceiling height. So max height is 8 feet. makes it a problem for high arching shots. I have seen some 30k models that are full size free throws in a box with 2-3 players. That looks awesome, but alas won't fit in my basement.

So it will still have an 8' max, but I think I am going to place the rim at 5.5 feet, so there will be some arc left. I have to build a mock-up first and try it out.

You don't need too much arc on those because the best strategy is to shoot bank shots anyway.

On second thought, it would be tough to beat the guy on the right:

Great idea. I have that on vynil, but was hoping for something easier to grab from. I see Amazon doesn't have any digital copies available.

I am not looking for any specific player mentioned, so I don't think I care how current it is.

I want:

Al-isms
Shazaam!
Swish-a-roo
Zing go the strings
Heart break hotel!
Oh brother!
Things anyone says when a shot goes in but want to hear Al saying it
It's good
Count it
I am sure there are others but drawing a blank now

Is it just me or do those balls seem under inflated? Quite a few near the end hit right at the back of the rim/backboard and just fall in,

Twine time!
Swish-a-roo for two!
What a shot, Whataburger! (And $50 goes to the Spina Bifada Association.)

Well, maybe not that last one.

Forgot about Twine time some how. I had swish-a-roo and just left off the two since it can be a little long if you are making shots quickly (but nothing will work if you are shooting like that dude that made 164 straight in about 90 seconds).

I don't think Al said "swish-a-roo" without "for two" if memory serves me right. But yeah, it could cause timing issues.

I know I have heard him say that. I think he varies it depending on the action too
