Suns pursuing free agent Paul Millsap

Post by Mori Chu »

Here we go again, only instead of Blake it's Paul Millsap.

Here's a link to Millsap's stats. He is a 32 year old PF who has played 11 NBA seasons. Last season he averaged 18.1 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 3.7 apg, 0.9 bpg in 34 minutes per game for the Hawks.

Thoughts? Would you want him on the Suns? If so, what's the most $$$ and years you'd be comfortable paying? How would you see the minutes breaking down in our PF/C rotation if we signed him?

Really like his game, but please don't. Just give Bender his chance.

I really like millsap as a player. But I really don't want him on the Suns now. Let's sit it out with the big FAs this off season and see what we've really got with the young 'uns

I think we're all in agreement. Good player. Does nothing for us right now. Probably doesn't even get us to the 8th seed in a stacked Western conference. Maybe if we move 2 of Knight/Chandler/Dudley and replace them with Millsap I would feel better. Losing all financial flexibility in the future as other players start coming up for their 2nd contract for Millsap doesn't make a lot of sense.

HE IS 32 YEARS OLD!

Does anyone want a 36 year old Millsap on their team making coin?

Yes I have the same opinion as everyone, no issue with Millsap as a player but fit makes no sense. As I said last night , I think he's meeting Nuggets and Wolves today and they are two teams who look determined to do whatever to try make the playoffs next season so hopefully he doesn't even meet with us tomorrow

I think a lot of this is maybe for show...all the "trade talk", FA meetings and potential signings. Something for the fans to drive some interest. Also good practice for the FO to go thru the exercise of getting involved in trade scenarios and FA meetings/pursuits.

Hope you're right Shel but it's more causing Panic than Interest :)

Milsap is really good and is probably a better fit than Blake, he's better defensively and a better shooter, but he's also 4 years older. I'd be ok with a 2 or 3 year deal, but a 4 year deal could be dicey. His game should age pretty well though.

Although, maybe we should just put the Kentucky trio of Cousins, Wall, and Bled together. If we sit out this years free agency and don't bring back Len, we'll have plenty of money to go get Cousins next year. The year after, Chandler and Dudley expire and we should have the money to get Wall. Hard to see Wall turning down the super max from Washington though.

I am really with everyone else. The only real reason to have Millsap would be for a vet presence for the young guys, but we already have that in Chandler and Dudley. We don't need to pay mentors max contracts.

Agreed

I was hoping he just signs with someone else.

Have McD and co. met with Millsap yet? It's too quiet.

Yes Nuggets and Wolves are suppose to be today so no news means our meeting tomorrow would still be on

Not really. Only because even if we do sign Millsap, his fit on this team is pretty good, and if Chriss shows he can handle defending bigs, then I think the team could improve a fair amount. Trying to look on the brightside i guess.

If we invest a max contract in Millsap, I'm gonna be pretty upset. He's not worth what he would cost us.
