Watson Watch 2017 <dramatic into music>
How long will Earl the Squirrel Watson coach the Phoenix Suns? We've had our doubts for a while, but last night was a nail in the coffin. Let's see those votes.

Re: Watsn Watch 2017 <dramatic into music>
I think he will make it through the season. $aver is too cheap and stupid to know of any better coach who he'd actually be willing to pay the money for.
Re: Watsn Watch 2017 <dramatic into music>
Hasn't he only let one HC contract expire? The rest were fired, right? Or did Gentry's contract expire too? He fired Hunter, Jeff, and Porter for sure.Marty [Mori Chu] wrote:I think he will make it through the season. $aver is too cheap and stupid to know of any better coach who he'd actually be willing to pay the money for.
Re: Watson Watch 2017 <dramatic into music>
How long does Watson's contract run? I'm sure somebody posted it here already, but I missed it.
Re: Watson Watch 2017 <dramatic into music>
I'm not breaking any news here, but this has to be turned around quick, lest they lose the team and development becomes a detriment. Then the whole Timeline is spoiled by the downward spiral this is becoming. I don't want to see the young guys get into bad habits, the culture becoming toxic, and for the promising players, it stalling or stunting their development.

Remember when D'Antoni left. Sarver really did not want him but he refused to fire him because he would have had to pay the remainder of his contract. So Mike went out found another job. Sarver made it look like Mike was the bad guy and left on his own.Indy wrote:Hasn't he only let one HC contract expire? The rest were fired, right? Or did Gentry's contract expire too? I would guess he had to pay what remained on the Porter, Gentry, Hunter & Hornacek contracts. I don't think any of them were all that much but they were under contract when they left town. So he has a history of letting coaches go mid contract.
It really is not a question of being cheap. Sarver has spent a lot of money. However it has not been spent very wisely.
Unless there is some dramatic turnaround, I think the next question will be why he extended McDonough this summer.
What acquisition or draft pick that McDonough has made really has any value around the league. We all love Booker but is he really as good as we want to believe?
What a frigging mess.
What was the reason to get rid of Monty again? Oh yeah, that guy we drafted rather than Doncic.

Re: Watson Watch 2017 <dramatic into music>
The sad part is that it really appears that we have a lot of coachable and likeable players on this roster. There seems to be no problem children but they seem to be given no direction as to how to play basketball the right way.In2ition wrote:I'm not breaking any news here, but this has to be turned around quick, lest they lose the team and development becomes a detriment. We need someone to force them, to clone an old Larry Brown saying "Play the right way".
Watson seems to have no clue as to how to make that happen. He has turned Brandon Knight into a shell of himself and virtually every other player on this roster has gotten worse. While I am not a fan of Bledsoe, he was a far better player under Hornacek. His value around the league has to be around zero.
Sarver, protect your investment and fire this guy today.

Re: Watson Watch 2017 <dramatic into music>
Funny, Larry Brown was the coach I thought of that could turn them around at least point them in the right direction. I was just hoping to be competitive this year, have the young guys noticeably improve and get a top 5 pick. Then, hopefully Majerle got GCU into the NCAA tournament and could come in and turn around the Suns.JustWinBaby wrote:The sad part is that it really appears that we have a lot of coachable and likeable players on this roster. No credible coach will want to take over mid-year so fire Watson whenever, have Triano take over and then hire JVG in the offseason. It's time. And don't F around saying, "We're evaluating Triano and want to give him a full training camp and season to see how he does".

I was just thinking last night "What big name coach would even take this job if Watson was fired early in the season?" and Larry Brown was the first name to pop into my head. Not that I'm anxious to have him here.....In2ition wrote:Funny, Larry Brown was the coach I thought of that could turn them around at least point them in the right direction. We need a teacher before the potential of our youngsters is squandered. Brown is a teacher. Watson is more like a summer camp counselor. The Bobster wrote:I was just thinking last night "What big name coach would even take this job if Watson was fired early in the season?" and Larry Brown was the first name to pop into my head. BTW, who "fixed" the thread title? I liked "Watsn." No O.

Guilty. Pretty sure it wasn't intentional. There is no 'D' anywhere to be seen either.Cap wrote:BTW, who "fixed" the thread title? I liked "Watsn." No O.

Thanks, Bone. If I was a professional Speller for the Suns, even Sarver would have see through me and fired me by now.

I don't think you need to worry. I don't think Sarver hires professional anything.O_Gardino wrote:lolSuperbone wrote:Guilty. Pretty sure it wasn't intentional. There is no 'D' anywhere to be seen either.Cap wrote:BTW, who "fixed" the thread title? I liked "Watsn." No O.

I guess some of us are having the same thought. This is just not basketball that is being played by this team under the direction of Earl Watson. The Bobster wrote:I was just thinking last night "What big name coach would even take this job if Watson was fired early in the season?" and Larry Brown was the first name to pop into my head. Larry Brown, IMO, is one of the greatest coaches of all time. He certainly had his quirks, like everyone. But he won basketball games in many different situations. I think his best accomplishment was with the Clippers. I was season ticket holder in 1992/1993. They hired Larry Brown as head coach and they brought in Mark Jackson as PG. They became the talk of the town and they made they playoffs.
What about Mark Jackson?
I know he had issues in Golden State but he was part of the development of that team. Jackson helped built a defensive mentality that still exists today. Maybe its JVG and Jackson. It really could not be worse than what we have. We could hire Larry Brown as consultant.
I just strongly believe that we are not heading down the right path and do not have the correct leadership at the present time. I probably would dump both Watson and McDonough at the same time. That is just me.
If we do not teach and demand that our young kids play the right way does it really matter who we draft next summer?
What good free agent in their right mind would want to play for us?
Why is McDonough not under scrutiny for hiring this guy without interviewing anyone else?
What was the reason to get rid of Monty again? Oh yeah, that guy we drafted rather than Doncic.

Didn't McDonough get extended this offseason?

I like Larry Brown, but he's 77. Dunno if he can still keep up with the NBA lifestyle.
JVG is an interesting option. He can coach, even though it's not my preferred style.
I would give Cheryl Reeve a call. She knows coaching, and she knows basketball. If I thought she could manage NBA egos, she might be the best candidate available.

Mike was great here but lets not pretend he didn't burn everything down on his way out. Taking one comment from the GM and turning it into a shit storm in the middle of a playoff series against the Spurs was insane. D'Antoni made it all about himself and basically gave up on the team and it showed out on the court.JustWinBaby wrote:Remember when D'Antoni left. And yes I agree Sarver is an idiot but I just dislike when Mike D gets a pass for the shit that went down.
