James and Ulis

So, looks like James is about to re-up, but I still think Ulis is a better playmaker.
Thoughts?

Re: James and Ulis
I don't necessarily think we should sign him to a multi year contract. But we should sign him for the rest of the season. Maybe throw a team option on there. He's a nice player, but he's a backup and I like the long term outlook of our other backup pg better.

That depends on the salary.Split T wrote:I don't necessarily think we should sign him to a multi year contract.

Sign him for the year and then let him move on
Re: James and Ulis
As I understand it, James is a 2-way player, and thus only allowed 45 days with the Suns. The rest of the season has to be with NAZ.
So, obviously, he has to have a new contract before the 45 days with the team runs out.
As much as I like Ulis and the idea of what Ulis could be, James has been better. I'd like to keep him on a multi year deal so that we don't have to panic and sign the wrong guard to play for us next season.

Re: James and Ulis
I guess another interesting question is whether we have a roster spot for James. We can only have 15 regular contracts, and we have those all full with injured dudes.
1. We may get an injury exemption for Knight which allows us to go over the limit.
2. We might clear out a spot in a Bledsoe trade.
3. I guess we might cut somebody, or make another trade to open up a spot. But that would probably be DJJ or Reed, and I'd rather keep those guys. Buy out Dudley? I don't want Tyson as the only vet on the team.

And let him move on? Even if he continues to play as well as he has? Dang dude. You sure are a hater of this roster. I'm guessing you're only positive regarding 2 players? Mike James can definitely be a nice, long term backup at the right price.specialsauce wrote:Sign him for the year and then let him move on
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

Neither is a starting PG and I’d rather have Ulis as my backup PG

Re: James and Ulis
As I see it, we have two starters (Booker and Jackson), three front-end bench guys (Ulis, Warren, Bender). If Bender learns to be more aggressive maybe at some point he can be a starter. That’s our core. I don’t have faith in Chriss and think his ceiling is Markieff Morris with the same attitude. I don’t see Len coming back. This team still needs 2, maybe 3 other starters. And one of them has to be a star.

Pretty sure that is impossible.specialsauce wrote:As I see it, we have two starters (Booker and Jackson), three front-end bench guys (Ulis, Warren, Bender). Here we are halfway through the season and he’s still a big wuss. Last few games have been better.
Re: James and Ulis
Who do you think had more FGAs? Bender (19-20 years old) so far this year, or Dragic his rookie year (22-23 years old)? I think you know the answer.specialsauce wrote:Indy wrote:Pretty sure that is impossible.specialsauce wrote:As I see it, we have two starters (Booker and Jackson), three front-end bench guys (Ulis, Warren, Bender). I'm assuming it's Bender? Who played more minutes during that time period? Dragic was backing up the best PG on the planet at that time.Indy wrote:Who do you think had more FGAs? Come on man. Bender is a power forward. Dragic is a PG. and who played more minutes? That’s a clickbait statement you made there, mr President. #fakenews
