Wait, we extended Grayson? Holy shit.
Re: Suns Extend Grayson Allen
Who? We have a guy named Grayson?

Re: Suns Extend Grayson Allen
They better not trade him. His shooting and occasional rim pressure is very important.
Love, Hurts.
Re: Suns Extend Grayson Allen
Let’s say the contracts work. Would you trade him for a guy like Draymond? Or more realistically, Isaac?

Re: Suns Extend Grayson Allen
Or, would anyone trade Allen and Nurkic for Myles Turner, as that’s what we could’ve gotten for Ayton, in theory…
Re: Suns Extend Grayson Allen
Grayson doesn’t make enough to trade for Isaac or Draymond. We will be under the full rules next year too, so no aggregating salaries. No buffer zone either. We can only acquire players that make the exact same or less than Grayson.
Re: Suns Extend Grayson Allen
I do have some concerns about our overall roster construction (lack of defense and ball-handling etc.), but I wouldn't want to trade Grayson for any of the proposed guys. We need some continuity on this team right now, and Grayson has been an excellent piece to go along with our Big 3.
Re: Suns Extend Grayson Allen
Allen is such a great fit here. I think anybody who trades for him would be expecting to get Bucks Allen and not Suns Allen.

Re: Suns Extend Grayson Allen
It depends on how he is used. He mentioned earlier in the season that he was never expected to drive like he does for the Suns. He was just asked to stand beyond the 3-point line and shoot 3s. I think that's one of the reasons he wanted to come back; he was given more freedom and opportunity to grow his game. Plus, the team and fan base welcomed him and his contributions.
In any case, none of the suggested options are worth giving up Grayson. He has been fantastic in his role, and if the Suns trade him for a player that fills another need, the void from losing Grayson would just create a new need.

Re: Suns Extend Grayson Allen
Depending on what the team looks like next year I could see where trading him makes sense. Right now we have a starting 5 and our top two backups are a guard and a wing. If we are in the same situation, I could see moving Royce into the starting lineup and trading Grayson for a big forward that can handle the backup minutes at the 4/5.
Royce could also be the trade bait for that…Or maybe Bol comes back and proves to be able to play that role. Grayson won’t be tradable until October…Royce wouldn’t be tradable until Dec 15th if he re-signs.
To be clear, I’m not saying I want to trade him, but roster balance might make it possible. I’d only do it for someone who could match the production at a different position. I’d want like a Bobby Portis level guy.

Re: Suns Extend Grayson Allen
Do we get any player exceptions (MLE, etc) to use or strictly minimum contracts
Re: Suns Extend Grayson Allen
We have the TPMLE, which is a little over half of the regular MLE.specialsauce wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 12:15 pmDo we get any player exceptions (MLE, etc) to use or strictly minimum contracts

We don’t get the TPMLE being over the 2nd apron. We will only have the vet min exception and 2nd round pick exception.
Re: Suns Extend Grayson Allen
Well, that kinda sucks.
Not that the TPMLE was gonna get us much, but at least it would have been something.
